I have a 2006 FZ6

Approximately how far does the reserve take you after the 2nd segment from the bottom starts flashing.

Lets assume we are on an urban road at about 60mph.

At least 22 miles. I know this from personal experience. I would think 35 would be a safe bet, given that gas is plentiful in the area you are riding.

Every time that I fill up after going on reserve I also record the number of miles I went while on reserve. Then, knowing the size of the tank and how much is required to fill up, I can calculate how much fuel was left in the reserve and then determine how far I could have gone on the total reserve beyond the miles I went. The calculated distance that I could theoretically go has been very consistent, whether I went a few miles on reserve or 30 - every calculation has predicted that the reserve alows between 49 and 55 miles to walking. So, FOR MY STYLE OF RIDING, if I we to go 50 miles on reserve I better be going down hill with a tail wind toward an open gas station.

Note that my calculation is based on getting 45 miles per gallon (I actually average 47, but I leave myself a "safety factor" in my calculations).

Reserve Range

I have a general rule of no more than 38 miles. I have gone a little as 35 miles and ran out and as far as 55 miles and it was still running. 50 -55 mph will get the most distance, 75 mph or above start taking a mile off per mph.

Again every bike varies, and rider, and methods of fuel economy differ as well as gas station pump accuracy. Most of us average 47 mpg over the long haul, and have seen 52 mpg plus at times. I have a personal best of 63+ mpg, and almost went 300 miles on one tank (hypermiling), and 59 mpg just putting around. It was bone dry when I pulled in, both times.

I've pushed it over 40 miles a few times but I'm really shitting my pants by the end. Supposedly the tank holds 5.1 gal but I've never filled it over 4.68 gal (and I am quite accurate and precise with my gas filling and calculating). Riding around the backroads in my area you are guaranteed to be within 40 miles of a gas station at any given point, so once I hit reserve I usually stop at the next one.

In my experience, it's only taken me as far as a gas station. :eek:nfloor

I think the consensus here has been around 1 gallon of gas is left when the display starts flashing, so whatever your personal mpg is, that's about how far you could go before having to call home and ask someone to bring you some gas.:)
