gsxr 600 2004 check engine light

i have 19000 miles on mi gxsr and today i was on the highway and at about 8000 rpms it lost power and the red light came on and it said FI... what does that mean?

My money's on it being the secondary throttle valve actuator, or STVA. One way to check is to lift the tank, pull off the air box, and look down at the throttle body blades. With the key on, when you turn the fuel on, the blades should cycle to fully open, then half open, then back to closed. If they don't, then the STVA needs to be replaced. Unfortunately, although it's a common problem among 04-05 600s and 750s (mine went out at about 15k miles), Suzuki doesn't sell it separately, so your best bet is to just find a used set of throttle bodies on eBay or one of the forums.
