Did the original poster ever respond with the reason? If so I missed it.

Figure out what the reasons are. If you are a 'cautious rider' and don't push it, why get something b***** than a 600? I went from a 600 to a zx9r. Why? Because it fits me well and due to the hooligan factor, i.e. being able to pass on *ahem* 'very short stretches of road' due to the torque. It's all possible with 600's but you need to really keep the revs up.

Getting a new literbike to 100% capability on the road is suicidal. I'm not talking about straight line here, but in the twisties.

Figure out why you want it and I bet you if it's a good solid reason you'll be comfortable with your choice and won't be second guessing yourself.

Just my $0.02

I upgraded to a 600 from a 1k. Actually, I still have both. The 600 is so much more fun to ride 90% of the time.
But I do love the torque of the 1k. :banana

I should've just gotten one bike, the 750. The perfect sportbike. :D

Stop talking about the damn Busa!!! The guy who wanted advice sad nothing about a busa!! This busa shit is always all over this site. All i hear is people fighting about if some one should or shouldn't get a busa when that was never the question!!
I will note your opinion and promptly disregard it.

Your kidding, right? Not saying that a 600 isn't enough, but after riding a 1000, the 6 feels like a scooter...I thought the same as you up until 2002, when I bought an R1...I will never buy a 600 again...

A 1000 is a BIG step...the torque alone is enough to get most in trouble, spinning up the tire at times you don't want it to is the biggest difference IMO...a 600 is a great bike, and if I wasn't in S. Florida and had some mountain twisties, I'd MIGHTstill be riding a 600...
Why would I be kidding? I have ridden plenty of 1000-1400cc bikes and not a big thing. Chances are you would be faster on a 600 that a 1000 at a track.

I didn't say it wasn't a big step, I said it wasn't an upgrade. I've owned quite a few bikes (14) and have had the ability to ride 100s of machines. I've been riding since I was 5, riding on the street for 19 years and have owned plenty of 1000cc bikes. All of my best riding experiences have happened on smaller bikes. Motor doesn't equal fun.

Sure, there are smaller bikes that are more comfortable. But are they as smooth and stable?
Yes

User Name said:
Are they as refined?
Absolutely

User Name said:
Do they have as much storage?
Because the Hayabusa has a trunk, right?
User Name said:
Do they have the low-end power that makes cruising/touring so much easier and more enjoyable?
So, torque makes touring more enjoyable? :rolleyes
User Name said:
Would they put the same smile on your face when you whack the throttle open on a straight or exiting a turn?
More so. The Hayabusa is a pig in corners and you cannot really use the throttle as much.

User Name said:
Can they carry a passenger in relative comfort?
Yes

User Name said:
Do they look different from every other bike on the road?
Yes

User Name said:
Sure, it's a questionable first street bike, but with the right attitude it can be handled.
Statstics prove this wrong.

User Name said:
With the wrong attitude, it's just as easy to kill yourself on a 600, so what difference does it really make?
You're not faced with a sudden rush of 160HP to the rear wheel when trying to corner. You don't have 530+ lbs of mass to slow down. There are many other reasons, would you like me to go on?

Hell, my cousin died on his R6,
Sorry to hear that.

my brother died in his car,
So did my dad, but what does this have to do with a motorcycle?
User Name said:
my grandfather died in his bed and my mother is dying in a nursing home.
Sorry about both, but that has nothing to do with the conversation.

WTF, ride whatever you want, and ride it in whatever manner will give you the life expectancy you hope for. Whatever you do, do whatever puts a smile on your face, just don't put others at risk doing so...
You are putting others at risk. The sportbike community, by screwing their insurance rates.

It's not smart in any way to recommend it as a first bike. As a matter of fact, if you read the current accident statistics, it's dangerous. I have read the statistics and written about them for this site. I don't want a new rider getting shit advice. I owe them that,as a long time rider.

Thanks fargin... i was gonna do just about that same thing, but i didnt want to have to deal with all the little quote tags.....

Busas are good bikes.... but as of the last few weeks, they are not the best at anything.

Fuggin bastige, your opinions are noted and the Busa would not be a good choice for a first bike. However, from reading your posts about the Busa, it appears you've never ridden one! No fuggin clue Mr bastige!
Yep, I've been working at a Suzuki dealer since 1988 and I NEVER rode the first black and silver Hayabusa that came into the dealership and I've NEVER ridden one at Road America and I've NEVER ridden one down the PCH.

You obviously have no clue of my experience.

Oh, I almost forgot, I NEVER rode one with the TRE and nitrous on it.

^^:eek:nfloor :eek:nfloor Guys, the post starter said he has rode for sometime, to many factors come into play when it comes to purchasing a b***** bike. IMO he should get what he is comfortable with. Remember there are two types, ones who haven't fell, and those who have. enjoy:banana

Wasn't talking to him. Talking to the guys who recommend it as a first bike. Never said he shouldn't get one.

I just think saying it's an upgrade is wrong. There are so many good bikes out there that the jump to a liter bike is not necessarily an upgrade.

My favorite bikes that I've owned have all been 750s. I would kill to have them back.

Such an expert should at least give it fair press then!

BTW, you're the greatest! :eek:nfloor

Hey, you brought it up.

BTW, since you've already acknowledged your lesser stature, tell me how I have never ridden one. What did I say that tipped you off?

if you have the chance try to ride a 1k and see if it's for you. I've had a couple myself but I've gone back to a 600 there is no reason for me to have a 1k. I wouldn't mind another gsxr750 though...
