I dont know if I am being picky or what, but I am sick of the term "crotch rocket." I kind of find it politicaly incorrect, I promptly correct them and tell them that it is a sport bike. Am I just being picky, or do others have the same feelings?

It's something fast.... it goes in my crotch.... i prefer the term sport bike, but i think that crotch rocket sounds cooler.

Now, when harley guys use it in a negative way, it pisses me off.
Just because as an engineer i love things that are engineered well, and happen to go way faster than they should is no reason to insult my ride

When someone finds out I ride they ask me what kind of bike I have. I say a "Suzuki GSX-R600" and no one knows what that is and all I get are blank stares. So I add "It's a crotch rocket" and that really clears things up. People are more used to the term crotch rocket than sportbike, for now at least.

The term "Crotch Rocket" doesn't bother me at all. It's when they say, "Oh, you've got one of those Ninja bikes". Now that, I find offensive! :eek:nfloor

Haha, yes that is pretty fucking gay.

:eek:nfloor That pisses me off. Down in Ga. though the only people that really call them crotch rockets are the ******* Harley guys, I used to hang out with the North Ga. Twins (they would not let me bring my bike) and all of them would say "O, so you got one of dem crochey rockets huh?" That would get on my nerves, till I found out alot of them used to have one when they were younger. :)

Since joining this board and getting a clue, I refrain from using the term 'Crotch Rocket' but it doesn't bug me when people around me say it. They all seem to understand that my 'crotch rocker' is a hell of a lot cooler (and better) than a Hardley.
That reminds me - I DO get upset when someone asks, 'you ride a motorcycle? is it a Harley?'

I say the same thing.

The problem is their opinions about these "race bikes". These opinions are usually shaped by other people that just don't like them. Most people just don't know enough to draw their own conclustions. We live in a land of cruisers (atleast around here). In other parts of the world sportbikes reign.

i call mine a 'crotch rocket' just out of necessity. it doesnt really bother me, but when asked what i ride, most people dont even understand the term 'sportbike'. and if i say 'suzuki gsxr750', they just look at me like i have snot on my face. so instead of making the conversation longer than it needs to be (or i want it to be) by going into details, i just say 'its a crotch rocket' and walk away.

I don't care....When I pick my son up from school the kids come up with such joy and say "cool crotch rocket"...I say thanks and then they walk away saying they are going to have one some day. It's only negative if you look at it that way. It's just a term...I don't care. It's mine, I ride it and it makes me happy. That's really all that matters.

I could care less what they call it so long as they don't touch it.I do love the looks on their faces when I take my helmet off and to their surprize it's not a young kid,but a gray beard that's kept himself in shape and has more life left in him than they could even dream of.

I really really hate when people call sportbikes "crotch rockets". The reason being is when i think of crotch rockets, i think of trashy squids that don't know anything about the true sport. Thats not who i want to be affiliated w/.
