Pushing a bike up and down stairs??

My apt. complex has underground storage. In order to get the bike down there there is a single landing of stairs that goes straight down (about8-9 steps). Will it be difficult to do without scraping the bike? How hard do you think it would be to push a 600cc sportbike up the steps by myself? I am about 6" 1 270 lbs with decent strength. Would this even be practical? Input please!!

I wouldn't try it by myself. With another guy then maybe. If the bike gets off balance then it's likely going to tip over unless you have someone helping out. A tip over in that situation could suck real bad especially if you don't have a lot of clearance. How steep are the steps? Even though you're a pretty big dude I think it would still be tough.

Not possible. You'll need some kind of ramp too make it up and down the stairs because as soon as you put the front wheel on the bottom of a step your lowers are going to hit.

What I would do is get a 2x6 that is about the right length(I am guessing 10 feet) and put that on the stairs. Get at least one friend to help. Going down have one person on each side and use the brake to help you get it down. On the way up, have the bike running and use its power to help you, along with the brakes.

I probably wouldn't try it though.

I find that hard to believe, unless you're a tank. Same senario, 400 pound sand bag, you think you could pull that up a flight of stairs?
ahah

Build a ramp and just ride up and down, get a little momentum on the way up and try to coast since you wont get much traction. It should be easy, of course there is a certain chance of wrecking the bike everytime you try something like this, so maybe you should park it somewhere else.

Even with a ramp I would assume you'd still bottom out at the top....both on the way up and the way down. This all of course depends on how steep the stairs are. If they aren't too steep, and you have a short wheelbase, then you may not have a problem....

This is the saddest thread...I can understand this crazed and desperate thinking having spent a lot of time in crowded New Jersey and been in your shoes, but there is no way in hell you are going to want to push a 400 lb wet sportbike up and down stairs.

Living in NJ apartments as a motorcyclist is difficult to say the least and makes you come up with insane ideas like this one. You have to rent based on where you can put your motorcycle safely and conveniently...or buy a tarp and lojack to park it outside.
