so i went to replace one of the damaged sliders. took one off and the bolt is a little bent. i didnt have a new slider yet so i put back the stock engine mount bolt. i set the torque wrench to 40 ft lbs as indicated by the repair manual. i didnt turn the wrench much and the threads inside were stripped.

just wondering what recourse i have. i know that threads can be repaired with a tap or a helicoil (preferred) but i just wanna double check with fellow fz6 brothers :cheers

Helicoil is the best way to go.

Yeah since the original metal is shot just running a tap through it wont do any good unless you made the hole b***** so that the tap has fresh metal to cut. <----- complete pain in the ass. So just stick with the helicoil

Helicoils are just threaded into their own "special" thread. There's enough friction between the helicoil and the threads that it doesn't go anywhere.

There's a thread from the past month or so with the specs on the bolt (someone else had a similar problem).

I did pretty much the same thing. I tightened down a loose slider when the engine was still warm and it yanked those aluminum threads right out. My local shop put a longer bolt through with a nut on the other side.... I think this will only work on the left side. One day I will probably fix it "just because", but it works great as is.
