I was at the MC show yesterday (Cleveland, OH). I looked at the BMW 800. The center stand is an option on that bike. It got me to thinking. Is it possible to add a center stand on to the ZZR? (without major modifications). I really liked having one for chain and rear wheel maintenance.

You would be better off buying a rear stand off ebay for $50.00 than trying to figure out how to modify your bike for a center stand. I use my rear stand all the time for rear wheel and chain maintenance.

I have been searching the net for some company that might sell a aftermarket center stand that would fit a 00-02 ZX6R. No luck so far. One may not exist. I'll keep you posted if I find anything. Jay

Spools are only 20 bucks or so and there's already threaded holes welded on the swingarm for them. To me, they're well worth it considering how much more stable a spool stand is.

With that said, if REALLY don't wanna spend the money on spools, you can purchase a pad stand which grabs the bike by the swingarm itself w/ little rubber "hands".

With THAT said, i have a pad stand for my ex500 and i hate the friggin thing... My EX always slides around on the pads, it sucks so i may get some spools welded directly onto the swingarm.

I 110% suggest getting spools & a spool stand and for that, I have to recommend Woodcraft. Best quality out there, bar none, tried & tested.

As for the center stand on an older gen ZX or ZZR, no, I've never heard of it being done and I imagine it wouldn't be easy w/ the fairings the way they are. There's simply not enough room. Not to mention you need solid mounting provisions underneath the swingarm pivot area which the bike does NOT have.

I had LPUSA 10mm swingarms spools that were about $20.00. I replaced them with a combination swingarm spool/slider. Your more than welcome to the LPUSA swingarm spools for $15.00 shipped.

The top picture is the LPUSA spools and the bottom two pictures are of the new ones I just installed from the ebay listing .

As for stands you can find a good set on ebay for about a $100.00. That's where I purchased mine from. Hope this helps you with your decisions. Jay
