I am just curious, in 98, was there two versions of the YZF600? a R and a non-r?

based on research it looks like there was too, but I was told by a couple of people who I would consider knowledable that there is only 1, so I am hoping someone can give me an answer

Thanks

--Note: I do notice there is two sub form's one is R and one is non-R. I am just unsure what year those apply to as well. Also how much difference is there between the R and the non-R.

I believe the models from 95-98 were called YZF600 while models after the 1998 redesign were called YZF600R.

Actually, the redesign was in 1997. In 1997 the YZF-600R received a total redesign and the R designation was added. in 1998 there was also the FZR-600, but no additional YZF-600 model. In 1999 Yamaha introduced the YZF R6, but the 600R also remained in the lineup.

Ok, I was mistaken, the R designation was there from '95, but the redesign was in '97 and the R6 wasn't introduced until '99...sorry for the misinformation.

Sometimes the DMV doesn't have the correct designation for some vehicles. When I went to register my DR250 they didn't even have it in the database. I have a Hyundai Tiburon that for the longest time the computers here thought was a truck, go figure.

TZR50 is not available in the US. Though I would love to own one.
