Yes, It's true. It's time for the official 2014 race season to begin. It starts at the high-speed and extremely beautiful Phillip Island in Australia.

I have not been following this series very closely but I do know that Tom Sykes is the reigning champion and this year Eric Buell racing will be in the mix. EBR has had poor test times so it will be interesting to see if they are a factor of any kind.

Throw in your comments and lets go racing!

Sucks about Geoff May! On another note, those EBRs are seriously down on speed. 30mph down on the leaders, about mid-pack with the 600 WSS bikes.

Nice to see a competitive Suzuki again.

I wonder if EBR's problem is aero-dynamics? Reason for this conjecture is EBR must know the true power output of their bikes. If the bike is really that much down in power, they won't have signed up for WSBK in the first place. Pure hypothesis though.

The talk of Phillip Island continues to be the newly found lap speed of the Suzuki WSBK machines and also the all-out speed of the Aprilias. Toni Elias' Red Devils RSV4 banged 196 mph in that session.

Those considering purchasing the WSBK video pass may want to re-holster your plastic and see how it develops. If you’re thinking it’s going to be close to, or even resemble, MotoGP coverage, you need to revisit your expectations.

First off, there’s very little actual live coverage. Just the 2 WSBK races themselves. There are a few scant videos, most of which are outdated and of questionable interest.

The live coverage is of a quality one might expect from a bunch of third world teenagers. About a third of the time the video is frozen, the audio is a sometimes thing; and the optical quality is several steps below that available from current cell phone cameras.

I’ll give it another month and see if they can get it right. If not, I’ll demand a refund. As it stands right now, the product would require several major upgrades to qualify as a POS.
