I have been reading this forum for quite some time and lurking but never really signed or posed. Sadly my first post is of my me and my poor Daytona 675 that I wrecked yesterday.

So I live kinda out in the country lots of two lane roads and deer around every corner and I know this and am always weary of them, never had a run in till yesterday. It was in the afternoon I was clipping along at about 60 or so and all of the sudden a deer ran out from a patch of woods on my left. He was closing fast right in front of me but I still had room to swerve right and hopefully dodge him. Cut it hard right to miss the deer which I did but hit the curb and lot control.

It all happened so fast bike went down on its right side threw me off where I rolled/skidded across concrete into a little grass field. When I stood up my bike was laying on its right side on the road and one shoe was somehow 100ft down the road. I was only about half geared up but the gloves, jacket and of course helmet saved me from any serious injury just average amounts of rash on my legs and fingers(f**k open finger gloves never wear them).
Just goes to show please always wear your gear.

So now to the bike I had full insurance on it and they are coming to look at it in a day or two I believe. Dont think its totaled or anything but it needs quite a bit of work on the right side. And I hit that curb pretty hard hope it didnt mess up the alignment or any of the fine tuned things of a modern bike.

So the moral from my story is pls pls slow down in wooded areas with lots O deer. And of course wear your gear.

Summary of damage: Right faring destroyed, scuffed up front and rear fairings, tank dented in, broke break lever and right handle bar, rash on front and rear wheels, bottom of right shock damaged, few smaller scratches on frame, engine cover scratched to hell and slight scratches on swing-arm. Yea my poor D675 took a beating :(

Ahh shit man, tough break. I've had a few near misses with deer, they suck!

Glad to hear you escaped without major injury. Hope all turns out well with your insurance. The scratches on the frame and swingarm don't bode well for keeping a clean title on the bike.

If there is a next time, plow straight through the motherfucker.

I'd rather take my chances with a curb, there is a much higher rate of survival then spearing a deer and hoping for the best.

Yea that was my thinking :) and ya i am still alive so it wasn't the worst choice. The scratches on the frame aren't to bad but they are there. Not sure what there going to say yet about fixing/totaling it. The thing I am MOST worried about is them fixing it and the bike turning into a lemon or not riding right....that was a high curb=hard hit.

Yea I looked high and low to find the SE edition (black and gold) it was my baby. I have mixed feelings about it being totaled. In one way it would be nice to get the cash and start fresh but I am going to have a hard time finding another bike like that one. Deff want to stick with the D675 its a wonderful bike. Thought about a new cbr600rr but prob wont go that direction.

Poor bike! What matters is that you're fine so don't sweat it - you got another cool story to tell when drinking with your buddies :D

Thanks for the encouragement guys yea I am a little down at the moment. Sometimes it just doesn't seam like good can come out of a situation.

So anyone have experience fixing a damaged bike. Do they still ride alright after its all said and done. The reason I ask this is I dont want to waist money getting it tip top shape again than always be having issues cause of the crash.

I've never crashed a bike and subsequently fixed it, but as long as the frame/forks/swingarm/etc. aren't tweaked, there shouldn't be any issues after repairs. That being said, I think if I had a major wreck, it'd always be on my mind that something was wrong with the bike afterward, which would make it harder to really enjoy riding it. I'd have to be very certain there wasn't any frame damage to fight for keeping the bike.

Glad you're safe but fingerless gloves? You took the time to find and actually purchase fingerless gloves?
