I'm a consultant from APEX staffing and my account manager stopped by today (with bagels for my office) and saw my lid. Turns out he rides a Gixxer 600. My inclination was to ask him to ride or meetup with us either online or at lunch/dinner....but he signs my pay check. Although we don't actually work together or even in the same building, would it be cool to ride with him or should I keep work and play seperate?

That depends on if you have anything incriminating or personal that you don't want your boss to know about. Like something that can hinder your career or get you fired.
Such as you might like to get liquored up at night and get in barroom fights...you don't want your boss to see this behavior...haha

I can tell you that at my last job I became good friends with my boss. It actually made work really fun but it did add some stress. First of all, I always wondered if he treated me differently than the other guys because we were so close. Second, when I realized that it was time for me to move on to another job it made that decision much harder. It also made me worry that I would not get a good reference from him because leaving the job was also leaving a buddy and sometimes people's feelings get hurt over that type of thing. Fortunately that part did not happen though.

I'm sure it was also stressful for him because he probably could not get onto me over mistakes and stuff because we were buddies. I doubt it made his job as my boss any easier.

I was also a full time employee and not a consultant. That may change things a bit, but I would say that if it were me, I would not do it.

yeah, especilly if you get him to ride one day and end up clipping him on a twisty. that would suck. ha

LOLOL :lao

i would pass. unless u kicked it with him before during lunch sometime and know more of his persona. He might piss u off and then want to kick it with u all the time when u dont wnat him to. many things could happen though. so just go with ur instints.

My boss just started riding with us about 4 months ago. Its been fine and our relationship has'nt changed at all..............although

he took a tumble last Sunday. Lowsided it coming into a turn to quick. Hyperextended his ankle and has been on crutches all week. He took the incident in stride and itsactually has become a little joke around the job. He posted memos on everyones paycheck stating that employees were NOT allowed to ride with me anymore.

I usually find it the opposite. I've got to be friends with bosses and learned things about them that made me question whether they should be bosses or not.
thats the same thing the boss could think when riding with him.

There's only one other rider in my whole department, and he's at the other campus 45 mins away (with good traffic) so not a concern for me.

One of the undergrads wants to get an R6 'cause he's tired of just being able to ride his mom's rebel when he goes home, but no luck yet.

I guess it's just as well, the most common sight in Chapel Hill when it's 70+ and sunny is some guy riding in a tee and jeans or shorts.

One day maybe I'll ask one how many miles his bike has on it :D

is there something wrong with that? Just curious if that is frowned upon. Cus i do that a lot, but make sure I wear gear when out riding more dangerous roads and higher speeds. But I just can't stand wearing all that when it's hot out

Fizzer, is that a serious question or were you being sarcastic? If serious, I would say that statistically you stand a higher chance of being in an accident at low speed in traffic situations than you do on a twisty road at higher speed. Yeah, if you go down at high speed you could get really hurt, but you will also get very hurt at 25mph if you hit a car that pulls out in front of you (which happens far more often than a low or high side).

If you've done much riding in traffic, and ESPECIALLY downtown chapel hill and carrboro you'd realize just how stupid this is. Peds will step in front of you with no warning, cars will try to share a lane that's barely big enough for the car, and it's general madness.

Go ahead and ride with him and have fun...just don't do anything that you don't want the office, or your boss to know about. Just be professional...And ride it like you stole it!!

:2eek I hope you're kidding.

But it is sad. I wear more gear than the other 3 people who ride at work... COMBINED.

My Olympia mesh jacket and pants have not been uncomfortable at all so far. The only part that was uncomfortable is sitting still in traffic when the cooling fans come on... but being bare-legged would be worse.

I just ordered a new Mesh jacket. Carolina blue Fieldsheer Josie. Only thing it matches in the Ramses on my windshield, but I had to buy it anyway! Question is, so I try to put "carolina girl" or the interlocking NC on the back? I plan on cutting one or the other out of navy leather and sewing it on.

I'm such a gear whore. I need to change my user title to the anti-squid.
