Ok... Who was at Christies Sundown restaurant or All Star Grill Friday night. Word has it that a fellow rider waved at friends then stood the bike up and hit the rear end of a semi truck... bike shot up into the air and hit a power pole 12+/- feet up in the air. Parts flew 300+/- feet every direction. Rider was air lifted to Tampa. Has anyone else heard of this? Was anyone a witness? Is the rider OK?

He didn't make it...

WINTER HAVEN - A 25-year-old Winter Haven man was killed late Friday night when his motorcycle struck a tractor-trailer.

Nicholas Reynolds, of 955 Seventh St. NW, was traveling north on Third Street Southwest at "a high rate of speed" around 10:53 p.m., reports state. At the intersection of Avenue K, he came up behind a tractor-trailer heading north in the inside lane.

Reynolds hit the left rear corner of the truck and lost control of his motorcycle, police said. According to reports, the motorcycle fell to the ground, slid into the curb on the northwest side of Avenue K Southwest, and was thrown into the air.

The motorcycle hit a light pole and came to rest about 105 feet north of the curb, reports state.

Police said Reynolds was airlifted by helicopter to Lakeland Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 1:21 a.m. It was not known if he was wearing a helmet.

Winter Haven Fire Department Lt. Shannon Duncan said bystanders had attempted to render aid to Reynolds before emergency personnel responded.

"They were trying to do what they could for him," he said. "I don't think they had any medical experience, but they were trying to do what they thought was right at the time."

Firefighter Brian Beasley said that parts of the motorcycle were "strewn all over the road."

Duncan said an Emergency Medical Services chaplain was called to the scene to assist the truck driver, Judson Eugene Smith, 29, of Fargo, Ga.

"(Smith) was visually upset," Duncan said.

The accident is currently under investigation by the Winter Haven Police Traffic Homicide Team.
