I have 4000 miles on the R1 now and the rear Dunlop 208 is looking a little thin..What do you think would be the best choice? Do you replace both at the same time and how does changing brands affect the ride..(dunlop front/pilot power rear)

Thank!!

Alot of R&D goes into a company making a tire, and they design thier tires to work together, thus in theory same make/model tires should be used. But Ive had buddies use different brand tires and not have problems but you never know if the 2 tires will work well together or not

I dont think I have ever had a set of "bad" tires. They all had their advantages and disadvantages. I think the only tire I didnt like were the Avon tires I had on my '03 Firebolt.

Michelin Pilot Powers just because they flat out rip on the street, I dont think they have a 190 tire available as of yet though, you would have to use a 180 on your R1 but it would offer better handling
Scott_R6, they have the 190's, you are rite about the handling though

Thread starter, Pilot Power is great for street riding but if you like canyon riding go with the Pilot Race, as for mix and match I would not recommend unless you are talking about rubber compounds

Love the Pilots. Very predictable.

Those dunlops are real real bad tires. Any would be a vast improvement. All are good but I voted for the Powers. I had diablos and they are also very very good, lasted well and seemed very good in the wet. I have PP rear now, still running a diablo front, but I can tell you the power is vey good with lots of leaned over grip. I thought the diablos were as good a road tire as there could be but I was wrong! This power is great. Funny I said the same about the M1s which I had before the diablos, the biggest problem with them was my bike killed them faster than any other tire I have had. Bet the M3s are ace though and are well worth a try too.

It seems that everyone I talk to says that the Pilot Powers are a good choice. I just recieved mine and have yet to install them so I can't give any feedback yet...
