Saw this bike for sale on eBay, and wanted to know if anyone knows what the catch is. It's a 2005 custom GSX-R 1000 with a "Buy It Now" price of $3100. But, you have to be pre approved before you can bid. Is this some sort of scam?

I've seen those before and don't know what the deal is but if it looks to good to be true it probably is.

My guess is that you have to pay a fee to be "approved" or maybe it's one of those scams that only gives you information on how to get a bike for that price?

I agree. I definitely wasn't planning on trying to buy it... just didn't know if this was some new scam running on eBay.

There is always soom sort of scam out there that's for sure.

Last year I inquired about a bike on the cycletrader that was in Orlando...well no one answered phone but he did email me back. The price was to good to be true. Then he say's the bike is actually in Italy and he will pay the shipping to get it back to the states etc. .....Yeah, right! Turned him in to cycletrader and they deleted the ad right away.

Out of sheer boredom I emailed to see what was going on. Here is the email reply I received:

Hello,
I have received your email regarding my bike 2005 Suzuki GSXR 1000.
First you have to know bidding is restricted since I am carefully with my auction,so no one will press the button until I have the assurance that he will buy it.
The bike is in perfect condition,with no scratches on it,no damage.
'The price for the bike is $3100 USD.

The bike was my husband`s as he loved it very much, but he did not enjoy it as he died in a IRAQ 3 month ago. It brings very bad memories to me, I want to get rid of it.
The buyer will receive the bike with all papers and receipts that he needs to register it to his name.

I am in London England right now but the bike is in USA and it will be shipped from there.
Shipping will be done whit DAS and it will take no more then 2-3 days. I have a friend there who will manage me a low price shipping and I assumed that it is my duty to pay for shipping it.It will be delivered directly to your address.
Anyway, I have to let you know that I want a fast deal so if you are really interested in buying it, please reply with the following information's:
-Your full name;
-Your ebay user id.
The transaction will close only through ebay vehicle purchase protection so we both will be protected.

I know people in general don't proof things they write but it always astounds me that if you are from another country not even you grammer in writing makes any sence. Sounds like my brother is talking. Scam-o-rama, they should be shot especially for the whole death in Iraq comment. Ron I see you are hard at work eh?????

Those ads on eBay are always there, the prices are always $3000 for the fully tricked out almost new custom sportbike... I still look now just to see how cool the bikes are.. .. If you check back in a couple of days they're always pulled.
