so everyone's asking about which oil to use, so I thought I ask which coolant is best for my bike. I have 01 F4i in california my high will reach 110 degrees, and low can hit low 40s. Thanks

My neighbor seems to swear by liquid Ice coolant and has been trying to talk me into swapping mine out.. just some generic brand antifreeze... I told him if he buys it we can swap both the bikes out at the same time but Its his cost LOL.. My bike gets hot after driving it for a few hours and sits at a light or something but the Stealership says no worries as long as the fan comes on and it doenst boil over...

The independent shop that helps me out on my bike as well as the local Cycle Gear recommended Engine Ice to me. Its purple and isn't harmful to flora/fauna. Still eythl something based but not ethyl glycol or whatever the usual is.

I've had it in my bike for about 1.5 months. The bike now seems to warm up and cool down quicker, indicating to me that this substance has better "temperature absorbing" qualities. I'd give you the technical term I'm looking for, but darn its late...

Thanks thats wat I was guna get...

Is it ok to mix different kind of coolant? or do I need to drain the current (unknown coolant) first?

my process: drain the old, fill with distilled water, warm bike up enough to get water circulating through engine and rad(s), turn off, drain, fill with new.

I did that just because the two coolants were of a different chemical composition and the bottle said not to mix the two. If you are running the same type of coolant then I would think you could just drain and fill.

Yea distilled water with no anti freeze can be used in a bike that will never see freezing temps. Standard anti-freeze and water mix cools less efficently then water alone. Water wetter and liquid ice are diffrent. However it has anti corrosive properties that tap water alone doesn't have. Thats why if you ride your bike during spring and summer alone there is no problem with running DISTILLED WATER. Just take the 15 minutes after every riding season and flush water out and refill with distilled water.

Yeah, to me this is one of those "not rocket science" things. Just use whatever pre-mix your local shop has and drain at the recommended intervals. I'm guessing you'd have to be running at extremely high temps for antifreeze to cause overheating

Gotta be careful with some of those anti-corrosive properties of some coolants, though. SOme have been found to eat water pump seals, etc...

If your bike is prone to over heating it will make a noticable diffrence. Water wetter will help even better then water alone. At Pocono raceway they make me drain the coolant and replace with water b4 i am allowed out on the track.

yea but the original ? is not about on the track.

also a new oil change reduces engine temp as well.

That's probably more a track safety thing than an engine safety thing, since normal ethylene glycol antifreeze is very slippery and hard to clean off of a track.

yes i know that i was just givin the guys who go to the track and have never been there b4 a heads up. Distilled water in spring and fall is still ok to use for all types of riding as long as you don't live in Alaska and flush it out for the winter.
