I think the "chin first half helmet" crash picture you are referring to is the guy that has no jaw and a bunch of mangled meat hanging down. I am pretty sure that pic is on snopes.com, and the guy did NOT crash, he had an M-160 firecracker or some other type of explosive in his mouth while it was LIT. That's why he has no lower half of his face.
