So I bought a used 04 gsxr750 two weeks ago, and decided to bypass the MSF course because my uncle gave me instructions in a parking lot for a couple days. Anyway, fast forward to Monday afternoon... I was passing this car that was sitting in my lane waiting to make a turn by going around him in the the right lane. Well this GMC Envoy coming the other direction turned left right in front of me and I barely had any time to slow down at all and I smashed into the side of the car and got thrown into the back of the vehicle through the side window. I was doing about 40ish and got down to maybe 35 by the time I impacted. The bike is totaled, and I got pretty jacked up, but the helmet and gear deff saved my ass. Anyway, I figured I would share my story as a testament to wear your freaking gear! and you can't always predict what the other idiot is going to do.

honestly man i tried to give u the benefit of the doubt with the other threads u made but is this another troll thread?

if not then its fine but not taking the mfs and buying a 750? seems like u didnt listen to what people suggested.

from your story it sounds like u switched lanes before an intersection and someone pulled out in front of u? was it a good idea, probably not. maybe it wasnt your fault and then again maybe the skills u could have learned in the msf would have saved you? think about it.

im not trying to be a dick but just prepare to get flamed.

edit: im glad u had gear on though.

So let me get this straight.... You actually hit the side of the car and smashed right through the side window.... and your whole body ended up inside the car.
That's awesome...It would have made it almost worth it just to see the look on the driver's face as you sat up in her back seat. (and yes, I said "her" on purpose)

Glad you're ok.

I hate to say it (no I don't) but if you had taken the MSF you would have had a lot of practice and instruction on how to SWERVE instead of SLOW DOWN when there is a vehicle in front of you. If you were going 40mph when the vehicle turned in front of you and got down to 35mph, you could have easily swerved. Now I may be mistaken, this could have been an 18-wheeler which turned in front of you, but then you would definitely would have had the chance to NOTICE the shit and avoid it.

LEARN TO SWERVE.
Wait, nm, LEARN TO TAKE MSF.

Edit: So did you get any time slips from the drag strip for your gissah before you totalled it?

ok i think i understand

so your in a 4 lane street the car in the leftside lane was turning. u switched lanes to the rightside lane and the car didnt see u and pulled out in front of you. a few things that could have contributed to this. one i would say is speed. second is the ability to use your brakes effectively. trust me i can probably stop in 1/2 the distance i could when i first started.

heres a few tips for you: be extra careful when entering intersections. make your presence known, scan, ride like your invisible. flash your lights. practice emergency braking.

the mfs course can definetly help u though and i think u should still consider taking it. trust me i had a lot of friends start riding this year and after the course they were way more confident.

Sorry for the accident, glad you are okay

I never took the course, but I was riding since I was 5 y/o.

We weren't there, but it's *possible* that with more training and/or experience, you may have avoided this.
This is the guy that informed us that a 500 wasn't fast enough for him and a Busa would be better.

Swerve where? on the embankment? Into the side of the car next to me that was making a left?
how about one of the other options which you are with holding in order to keep your balls intact. If you think about what you could have done to prevent it, maybe you'll learn something about the experience. That's how these things work :rolleyes

Just take the damn MSF course and try to utilize some more responsibility in regards to owning/operating a motorcycle :bitchslap

Ok from what you have said this is what it seems like happened...

You made 2 mistakes on the road and many before, such as thinking your too pro to take MSF or other classes.

Mistake 1 -

If you werent so damn impatient you could have just slowed down and sat behind the car and waited for it to turn. Really is about 5 seconds going to kill you sitting there? No you just got impatient...

You also should have been paying freakin attention and noticed the car comming to turn left and should then have kept an eye on him...

Mistake 2 -

You could have possibly swerved like others suggested and taken the light blue line. I dont know if this was really possible in this case depending on how things happened but i do know taking classes like MSF would have made you better able to do so if you could have done it.

IMO neither car was at fault one bit.

Well, I luckily had full coverage, so I'm going to be getting something else. Was thinking about a newer gsxr1000 because of the 3-mode switch and I can turn it down. The 750 was nice an all, but it was not as fast as everyone made it seem.
