If you go to Miami or New Orleans...dont expect to find any great riding, if you want to get a motorcycle and find some good roads.

If you want to do the touristy things there...they are both cool.

For motorcycling...California is your best bet...AWESOME roads.

As far as the rest of California...dont cut yourself short. It is a huge state with some Amazing things in it. Redwoods/Lake Shasta/Trinity up north, Hwy 101/PCH, Sequoia and Kings Canyon in the Sierras(and Lake Tahoe), Yosemite, L.A. (it is L.A. if you want to check it out), San Diego is a great place to visit and is a far cry from L.A. that, gets lumped in with L.A. but is far enough away to be different.

If I had to pick 3 cities I'd pick
1. San Fran (recommend bar hopping down at the Fisherman's Warf)
2. Vegas (casino hopping--free drinks also)
3. San Diego (Bar hopping all the way up the coast to Carlsbad.. make sure you stop at Tom Giblin's Irish Pub.... always a good time :) )

All three cities are close so air fair would be cheap... maybe cheaper then renting a car

If you come to santa barbara give me a ring and I'll take you bar hopping. Some of the hottest women in the world live here. I'm married so I won't be hooking up, but you can use my good looks to attract the ladies and then you start talking to em in your foreign accect. Girls will be all over you.

What time of year would you be thinking of a visit? I see a lot of suggestions for the typical "tourist traps". Of course I may be partial to this, but Minnesota is a great place to visit at any time of the year because there are tons you can do at any time. Our main tourist trap is the Mall of America (www.mallofamerica.com) but there are SOOO many more things to do besides that retail mega-monster. http://www.exploreminnesota.com/ has a lot of good information as well. Being that it is your 1st trip to the states, you have SOOO many places to consider. Good luck, it's a tough choice!

Thanks for your all suggestions :)

I'm thinking of going middle / end of September. I've narrowed my plans, this weekend I'll look into it further.

At his moment it's as followed:

Start in San Fransisco, stay here a couple of days, do a bit of club hopping, rent a bike and see the area.

Drop from San Fransisco to LA, hang around a bit, going to see the all the tourist with strange t-shirts hang around famous places :) hoping to see someone famous.

Finally drop down to San Diego and maybe a couple of days in Mexico. Would be fun to see al the Americans get drunk and act crazy :)

Anyway I'm always open for suggestions...Here are some things I want to do:

- Go to Starbucks and get a large coffee
- Get as slice of American Pizza
- Relax on the beach, watch gir.. eh surfers
- Party at night
- Try to explain to the American folks that Amsterdam is not only about prostitution and drugs :)

Lol, my collegue told me the same when he was in San Fransisco a couple of years back. I only have one problem, I'm a redhead, I don't know if the girls dig it... (in Spain, Italy & Portugal it's very popular because everybody has dark hair)

Its not? I guess if my wife and I had ever put down the bong and left Bettyboop I would know this. Oh wait, before we found the Bettyboop place we rode on a canal boat, got some candy, was offered X and acid, went to the sex museum, bought a box of Cubans, and walked passed a guy sitting on the sidewalk blowing a big horn that sounded like a fart that would never end. We stayed 2 nights in Amsterdam and then got a room in Holland and went back and forth for the remainder of the week before driving east.
