Hi,

I would like to get some suggestions from the people who live in the USA.

I'm thinking about escaping Holland for a bit. I've always wanted to go to the United States. So i'm thinking of planning a short vacation to the USA. About 14 days maximum.

The States I'm interrested in are California (San Fransico area), Louisiana (New Orleans area) or Florida (Miami / Tampa / Daytona).

If someone lives in the above states, can you tell me what's hot and what's not, what should I see / visit?

And ofcourse, how are the roads if I rent a motorcycle :)

Thanks,

Sander

Nevada is a cool state in that their streets are concrete rather than asfault hence the smoothness Stimy is talking about. Don't go to California espcially the Bay Area as the assistant district attourney down there is weird, anti-cop (to the point of disarming them to give the police a softer image while letting criminals carry whatever they want), and otherwise ungodly high cost of everything.

Vegas would be my first choice of places to go for just about anything really. Stay on the strip and it ought to be fun, leave the strip I hear from people who live there it's a bit of a shithole.

If you want great weather (currently about 75 degrees F or 25 C at 4:30 PM) come to the SF Bay Area of CA. Some of the best m/c roads in the world:

Look at the "Santa Cruz Mountains" section for roads within 30 minutes of home.

San Francisco is great, Lake Tahoe is great, southern CA is great if you want Disneyland etc and more great roads, but LOTS of people. Yosemite National Park, the wine country, the whole coastline, on and on. :)

BTW, only bikes I've seen rented around here are Harleys  Maybe a BMW if you look hard.

Yeah, that would be great. Spend 14 days of your trip to the US in a hurricane. If you're thinking about starting in San Francisco, seeing the sights there and then renting a car and taking hwy1 and 101 through the coast south. Once you're in Los Angeles spend a day or two there and head east and get on the I10 hwy through Arizona, Nevada, (Las Vegas) New Mexico, Texas, and then into Louisiana and hit New Orleans. You can prolly fly out of Louisiana, stop over in New York for a night and check out the sites there before heading back to Holland. From San Francisco to New Orleans, you're looking at a 3 day drive if you drive non stop, so 14 days would be plenty of time to get there and see everything you want to see and on top of it you get to see a wide variety of the US from mountains, ocean, desert, swamp. Just about every type of climate you can imagine and some really beautiful scenery and culture as well.

I think Hertz car rental is having some really good deals at the moment and they all come equipped with GPS, so getting lost would be pretty hard to do. Also, right now is a good time since the exchange from Euro to American is really good and you don't have all the high taxes here as you do there, so your dollar will stretch a long way here.

Thanks,

This holliday for me I just to relax a bit, and not driving from city to city. In a few years I will do the above, but then I'll take 3 months off (or more). This trip I want to visit 2 / 3 cities max, but there are 2 many choices... San Fransico is currently on top of the list...
