Well, we've started noticing a very interesting error with my bike.

The problem is as follows. There is no variation and the replication rate of this error is 100%.
When riding my EX500, after accelerating past 5k on the tach, in second gear, deceleration down under 4k on the tach causes the bike to shift to neutral without any input. The error doesn't occur from any other gears.

Any ideas as to what might be wrong, and what might fix it? Thanks in advance!

In most shift drum style transmissions, there is a cam on the side of the drum and a spring loaded roller. This is called the shift detent. Its use to really hold the drum into place to vibration and such will prevent the drum from turning and switching gears. In order for this detent to work, your shift mechanism must be properly in spec so that you have the same amount of travel forward, and backward with out actually shifting the gear. When you lift up on the shifter peg, does it take more or less effort or travel to pull up on the peg as opposed to pushing down on it?
