If anyone has the data handy, it'd save me from calculating it all out.

I'm looking to know the top speed (actual) of the FZ6 in each gear at red line.

If no one's got it, I'll have to bust out the calculator.

I had the fizzer up to 200 kms per hour last week on the QEW. I was driving to Burlington to my dealers, and a Ford Escape was on my butt wanting to go...of course I was in the fast lane and there were cars ahead of me. Got to the bottom of the skyway and he took off in the far right hand lane, and as he passed me on the right, he flipped me the finger. Well, he thought he was such a cool rider, you know one of these guys that weaves through traffic and has to be the fastest guy on the road. If I had just been sitting in the fast lane with no one ahead of me, I could understand his anger, but I was waiting for the guy ahead of my to pass and move over just like he was.

Well after he gave me the finger, I dropped a gear and let her loose. Passed him with no effort at all, even though you could see him step on the gas and try. I got off at Plains road and he did too. He pulled up beside me at a stop light and said: "You drive like a girl" to which I replied, "well of course I do, I am a girl...but remember, I won, a$$hole", and as the light turned green, pulled a wheelie and off I went ;) :squid

Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for.

So the theoretical top speed is 166, but from what I recall 140-150 is the top speed reported by reviews, which would make sense if it doesn't have the power to pull past 142 in 6th. Hmm that makes me wonder, if the gearing is such that a higher speed can be reached in 5th gear. Maybe I'll take a look at some dyno charts and crunch some numbers later.

Anyway I thought I had it redlined in 5th gear today but I don't think that's correct looking at the speed I would have been going.

tsk, tsk, tsk. Road rage.
You didn't have to prove you're a better rider than him because "YOU ARE"!! :) You didn't have to prove you're a better woman than him, because "YOU ARE"!! And, you didn't have to prove that you're a better asshole than him because.... oooops wait..:eek:nfloor

I've have gone 147(indicated) in 5th at 13 grand. Humbling. I didn't have the road or desire to go for more. :rolleyes
The bike screams-its just how long you can hold it open for given the road(and your license).
Thats fast enough for me and top speed is a dangerous goal...
Personally, to pull 6th, I would over rev 5th.
When I roadraced many year ago, it was faster to over rev 5th, than to try & pull 6th(GPZ550). At least on a closed track.
My .02...

If someone is driving a Ford Escape, is he a rider? That's rich that he would actually try to get some satisfaction passing a bike in his big stumbling truck... I get people that seem to be really proud of themselves passing me all the time in their 20 year old rust buckets... I don't get it, do they really think that just because I'm on a bike that I'm riding it flat out all the time so they've actually accomplished something other than just passing me on a day that I don't want to race?

That's odd, even though the speedometer is supposed to be way off, I noticed the other day in 1st I can reach 63 and in second I can reach 92. I didn't get fast enough to look at the rest of them.

Tradionally roadrace/sport inspired bikes have tall first gears. You can usually do the highway speed limit in first. That means you can pull out in most any traffic and come up to speed quickly without shifting.
Thats also why a power wheelie in ONE gear(first) can be such an awesome wheelie.

I know, but I always hear about how far off the speedometer is and those numbers seem to match my own personal experience.
I'm fairly certain that those calculated numbers do not take friction/drag into account. Those calculations would be the top speeds IF you had no air resistance, and no lost power from friction between the road and the tires.

Of course, if you had no air resistance you would be in a vacuum and it would be a tad hard starting the bike. And if no friction lost to the road the wheels would spin like crazy, hehe.

In the real world, based on my GPS (if I remember right),if my FZ6's speedo indicates 85mph, I am actually only going in the upper 70's.

Find a long down grade road and those speeds can be attained.
Agreed....and find a down grade through a tunnel and watch her fly! (and gotta love the sound of the fizzer on the pipes through a tunnel). :banana

The calculated numbers have nothing to do with air resistance, i.e. they tell you the speed the bike will be going at a particular engine speed and gear combination, but don't tell you whether or not the bike has the power to reach a particular speed for a given gear (such as 14k RPM in 6th gear). What I think tjeepdrv was saying, is that in first gear his speed at the redline matches what is calculated, which goes against the theory that the speedometer is 10% off.
