So I am at work last night talking to this chick about motorcycles. She said her husband has 2 harleys and one of them rides real rough. I ask her if it is a sportster. She then procedes to tell me that sporties are sissy bikes and that the only people that ride them are ones that can't afford "real" harleys. She said she could have bought 2 sporties for every "real" harley in her garage. So this gets me stirred up and I have to let her know that 1200 sporties are faster than her "real" harleys and her and her husband are rub posers. I also told her that a sporty was harley's origional superbike, and her "real" harleys are pieces of agricultural equipment. Then I had to tell her some day her husband is going to get his ass handed to him by one of those sissy bikes, and he should feel like a fool afterwards. So the conversation did not end well and I don't think I got anywhere with her except her going home and telling her husband this guy at work thinks he is a poser and a rub. lmao.... Anyway, I am pissed that big inch harley riders look down on their own make of bikes b/c it isn't what they consider to be a true representative of the brand. People like this just piss me off!!!!!!!! :bitchslap Oh, and I am still pissed at harley for dropping buell....

Well it is a pussy bike-but only in price terms. You have to remember that (some) Harley people are more materialistic than they are realistic.

Because if they were realistic, they would realize they are over paying for semi-American made motorcycle.

I have old news for you Jim. Start by looking at the label of your Tshirts-then you can look all around you and start inspecting. Talk to me about buying American?
The difference here I am not in denial about what I buy as most Harley owners.

However I do my part by not buying from Walmart-fuck those putos.

The primary benefit to Harleys is the huge aftermarket for those who are into cruisers. And as long as you aren't buying the Officially Branded™ stuff with Harley's logo on it, everything's as cheap or cheaper than it is for cruisers from the big four, due to economics of scale.

As far as Sportsters are concerned, they certainly aren't "girls' bikes" and are the ones most capable of high performance for a cruiser. See: The XR1200.

My grandad is a huge motorcycle guy, and a motorcycle journalist. Hes written multiple books on harleys, so he knows a thing or two about em. He has 2 harleys in his garage. Both sportsters. Yet my dad, who has never owned a harley, talks about how theyre girl bikes :bitchslap

I always wonder if the people talking about them being sissy bikes have ever seen a flat track race....

I think the reason Harley riders refer to a Sportster as a "girls bike" may be because it's not a big bike:dunno
.....or that it's the cheapest bike in Harleys line-up.

One of the guys I work with has a 1200 Sportster..nice looking bike.
He tells me the guys in his club give him shit sometimes 'cause he rides a Sportster. I told him next time I go riding with him & his buddies that we'll swap bikes.
That Sportster wont seem like such a girlie bike after I'm done with it. nfloor
He'll have to get new tires and brakes but at least the bike will have been ridden close to or at it's performance limit for once in it's life.:beer
