Last night my lappy started screwing up on me, started having pop-ups everywhere AND it's slow as hell now. *grrr* Thought it was because I needed to renew my Norton, but I've now fixed that and renewed it. I ran a scan on Norton and it found some viruses (don't know how I got them!) and I deleted everything. Then I downloaded a SpySubtract program and I keep running scans and everytime it's finding something new to delete, but it's still screwed up! It's not running as slow now but I still have some damn pop-ups. Help!! Or else the lappy is about to die. :pisson I'm near the point to doing some major damage to it... *grrr*

i'm not really sure what all that gibberish really meant but i'll take a crack at it. i generally use periods and coma's so you don't understand what i'm saying just take them out.

if norton is expired and you are running around the net, going to sites you shouldn't and opening files you get emailed stop doing that. if you can't, turn the computer off and give it to someone else.

renew norton. if it costs money and you don't have it you can download a free virus scanner. just make sure you uninstall norton first. try this one>>> http://www.grisoft.com/doc/1

you need a program that will remove spy/adware as well. try this one>>> http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

make sure you uninstall that other crap you have installed. some spy/adware tools actually install their own ad/spyware.

install AVG and Adaware. restart the computer in safe mode and run both programs.

press the F8 button while the computer is booting but before the windows screen come up. the F8 button, not F+8.

run both programs. you are in safe mode because you cant delete some files or viruses while they are running. safe mode limits the number of programs that run at startup.

once you are finished with both of those programs de-fragment your harddrive.

you should be safe after that. quit going to porn sites.

Sorry you couldn't understand what I was typing. I was quite angered at the time and obviously it showed.

I forgot to add that I did uninstall the orginal Norton. I was getting errors that it had been tampered with. I have since then downloaded Norton 2005 and have renewed my membership. I am going to try the lava link you typed. Thanks for all the help!

BlurBro: I'm definately tempted! If I did that I'd have to fight the bf off our home comp. Damn Raven Shield, he's addicted!

I have some experience in this field.... I work at Tom Coyote Spyware Forum helping people with infected pc's...

#1. Anything Norton.... NEVER put that in any PC unless they are a sworn enemy....

#2. There are only a few tools that will actually help in a spyware infection. Most programs are incapable because the programs are getting very advanced and rely on some of windows FPS featyres... file protection system.. Windows can be told to "protect" certain files... they will be undeletable even if you format.... they will remain on disk!!! Only way to rid the drive of them is a fdisk or changing the file properties and deleting in safemodr of in DOS...

#3. Tools, Adaware SE SPY BOT SnD are the 2 to use. Dont even bother with anything else, alot can install crapware and actuall make things MUCH worse!!!

#4 HiJackThis of HJT This is the tool to use to clean the problem you have... you have a file in the "runonce" folder of windows that contains a dll that is very tricky... it can tell whey you are attempting to delete it.... and will reloacate itself to a new folder and rename itself then on the next reboot it reinstalls itself back to new shape and begins to fuck with your head more and more till people give up on pc's entirely!!!!

No shit Ive heard of people that have gotten so frustrated they smashed the dam thing and refused to ever buy another PC!!!

Norton is HELLarious!!!

My company puts it on my laptop, and every time i get a virus...it (Norton) CRASHES!!!! How funny is that?

There is a FREE anti virus called avast!, you can find it on www.downloads.com, i use it to correct the mess Norton makes, and you can install both if you need to, as it will shut down if it detects Norton, but will run when Norton craps out.

Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition has never let me down...but it won't work on Windows Vista...I have AVG Free antivirus installed and it works great. The Windows Antispyware Beta from Microsoft works great! A lot of people are going to be upset in January when Microsoft starts charging for it.

Except they have a new contract with Gain that ignores the installation of their spyware. Gain is one of the big offenders, and nice thing is you won't be able to see or remove it.

I have a simpler solution. C:\format. Get a partition manager and create a OS image. Reimage often.

Reimage nothing. You can select Gain software in MS AS Beta to be removed. It's in "ignore" status as part of the latest def. file.

I'm sorry guys, I can work my way around the internet but I have no idea about the inner workings of the computer itself.
