I am taking the brc in 2 weeks and have started to try to get a feel for the size of some reccommended starter bikes. Today I went to most of the local motorcycle dealers in the area and found that these starter bikes aren't really built for someone my size. I am 6'5 and weight over 270lbs. Any suggestions of some larger starter bikes? I sat on most of the reccommended on this board and they where not very comfortable.

Only the larger displacement bikes fit and of course the salesmen all reccommended for my size a b***** bike, but I don't want to set myself up to fail. Are older larger displacement sport bikes of the 90's an option (maybe less power but b***** bike). I do not want to learn on a cruiser since I really have no interest in them and they handle much differently (rode my friends 750 cruiser and hated it).

I am 36 years old and used to ride a little in my teens and early 20's. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Versys. Wee Strom (V-Strom 650). I'm your size (a little b*****, actually) and started on a Ninja 650R. I'm now on a VFR, which is really nice for taller guys, but it's not a starter bike - heavy, too much HP. Those older, b***** sport bikes are still not very good starter bikes - way too much HP. If you're not set on a new bike, an older Nighthawk 750 would be all right or any of the 80s UJMs.

+1 on the Versys if you think your tall. That bike will make you change your mind about that. A 650r sits pretty high too, when I bought my bike it was from some guy that was at least 6'5"

I'm 6'6'' and ride a 99 FZR. It's a bit small in the wheelbase, but seat height is fine. I planned on buying that and running it for a couple years just to get comfortable on a bike. Over the winter, I should be able to comfortably upgrade to a liter. My advise is just buy something small and cheap, learn and upgrade.
