I currently have a shoei 900 but i'm interested in getting suomy's gunwind lid. I was wondering if anyone can tell me major difference's from the two like how it fits, noise, comfort, fogging, and being cooled. I love my shoei but its plan and i'm willing to spend 3bills on a soumy......

I don't think they even make the Gunwind anymore. You might find some sweet deals on closeout but I think they have a new mid-range lid out now. Check the U.S. website.

I hear the Spec-1R helmets are much better than the Gunwinds anyways...

I wanted a suomy gunwind also but at the store the shield is a bitch to change and I couldnt fit my glasses in there so I stuck with my rf900.

I heard the gunwinds have shields that are a pain in the ass to change, but they're discontinued anyway (although you can pick one up for REAL cheap on eBay new). The Spec 1-R is comparable to the Arai Corsair and everyone I know whose owned one has liked it. Head over to helmetharbor.com and look and the reviews. Also you can pick up a new Spec 1R on eBay for around $300.

I have a spec1r and I love it but the sizing does run small compared to an Arai. In an Arai I wear a med. but w/the suomy I had to go up to a large and it was a tight fit around the cheek pads before the padding molded to my melon.

I wouldn't trade my Spec-1R for anything, I love it. I have the Van Der Goorberg replica, with the casino theme.

Pick one up, you won't be disappointed. I have a Gunwind and I think it's great. Not sure what makes the shield so difficult to change. I know I haven't had any problems with it. The best part of Suomy is their customer service. They'll go above and beyond to makes sure you're happy with their product!

If you insist on a Gunwind, they can be found around for cheap. Spec 1R is a little better, thought the shield changing is still more involved that some others, like your Shoei. Venting is ok...nothing to write home about. Some complain about the lack of chin coverage when the helmet is donned. Definately runs shorter along the chin than the RF 900.
The cool thing about Suomy are their graphics. I buy their helmets for that reason alone sometimes. Though when it comes to features and ventilation, the Arai and Shoei are better by far, IMHO. It's in the attention to details between the helmets where it really shows.
