Does anyone else want to wave the BS flag on this one. I find it hard to believe that a 1000 Honda can break 200 mph. A busa with turbo breaking 200, I'd buy that one....Not a liter Honda.

Peace

Anyway you look at it, he is getting nailed with 205 cause that is what was clocked. So even if he was or wasn't, he should have been to get his monies worth on that insane fine!

:bsflag there you go. As a busa owner with a few adjustments and knowing other big bore bike owners this is :bsflag. 180-185 tops. A 20 y/old college student probably doesen't have the $$$$ to modify a Busa to go that fast unless mom and dad are loaded and do not know what Jr. is doing with his money.
As for the rest of the article enough has been said.

I'm with you. I've got a little experience at Bonneville, etc. Your basic street 1000cc won't bust the 200 Club. 200 is HARD to do.

I would bet the correction / error factor from using a handheld stopwatch from a plane must be pretty large. Granted this guy was cooking right along, and at 150+ it would not take much of a timing error to really change the "clocked" speed this guy was going.

I'll bet this one will go under further review. Shouldn't be hard to prove he wasn't going close to 205. If anyone has "offical" updates....post up....I'd like to see how this turns out.

Peace

haha u cannot get an accurate speed by timing him over a quarter mile...maybe a mile at that speed...and we all know he was doing maybe 180

Maybe with a good lawyer he can get it lowered or thrown out because he can prove his bike isn't capable of going that fast and the cop must not be telling the truth...

Being that he was accelerating though that 1/4 mile the 205 MPH is the average speed not the top speed the top speed would be higher then 205. He should be able to get this ticket tossed out all he has to do is prove that his bike can't do even close to 200mph and he's good to go on the speeding ticket the rest will prob stand though...

I've ridden Hwy 61 down by Wabasha, and I can't think of a spot with enough site line to run that fast. You need a couple of miles of straight open road to run that fast, even if you had a turbo Busa or ZX12, which he didn't. Even if it was "only" 180, the guy certainly doesn't appreciate life much.

I saw the air cop interviewed this morning on the news, and it was kind of funny when he said that he had to increase his air speed to catch up to the biker.

Good luck kid and save those pennies...you're going to need them.

What I thought was funny was the kid or person he was racing, who I'm sure pushed over 100, only got off with a warning. That must have been the only time when it sucked to win a race like that.

The buddy was clocked at 111mph.

Hmm Im not so sure about the peeps saying a Piped and PC3ed CBR1000RR could not get close or even right at 200...
its not that far fetched...
my Dynoed 140 rear wheel 929 was radared at Texas World speedway at 178...
the 1000 has rougly 25-30 more HP depending on the bike STOCK...
add a GOOD pipe like an akropovich and a good map and he could get 180 horses out of it... 180 horses with a light rider should get that bike damn close to 200 mph..
you guys got to remeber how much horsepower was boosted this year... The GSXR1000 was the low guy this year.. with the ZX10 CBR1000RR and R1 being way up in the 165 range for stock horsepower...
thats no joke guys.. a few minor bolt ons and a day on the dyno getting a map made = a super super fast bike...

other than that if it really was an RC51 then this story is BS completely..

Here are some updates:

It was an RC-51 -- they say it was modded but who knows. I don't think he was really going that fast... Just not an acurate form of measuerment when dealing with higher speeds. If they got him on laser, i would agree with 205. We all know an RC-51 can't go 205 without serious modds and i'm willing to bet it had loud pipes or something hence "highly modified" by most reports. The stopwatch might work well for ppl going 85 in the 65 zone but this trap was clearly not designed for the speeds we're talking about here (150+).

Anyway here are some local news stories:

KSTP CH5 -- there is a video of the story here -- scroll around, you'll find it, otherwise do a search on the site for 205 MPH.
http://www.kstp.com/article/64/

Here is KARE11 -- they just have the story on their site:
http://www.kare11.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=69711

Here is WCCO CH4 -- they have a video as well showing a CBR1000RR which is not the right bike (but it sure does look cool on a news broadcast)
http://www.wcco.com/ you'll have to search around the site to find the video/story. Just scroll down a bit and look for 205.

Enjoy, i got a kick out of this for sure! Regardless of the trouble this kid is in, it's one HELL of a story for the kids (very few will EVER top the 200 Club for citations on a public road even if it doesn't stick in court), I don't care what anybody says. He lived and life goes on... Stupid yes, but what the hell, there wasn't ONE mention in any story that anybody else's life was in danger but his so f-it! :)

Later,

Nick

"Only a handful of exotic sports cars can reach 200 mph, but many high-performance motorcycles can top 175 mph. With minor modifications, they can hit 200 mph. Tilley was riding a Honda 1000, Loney said."

I'd like to know what "minor mods" you do to get your bike over 200mph.

Like it was said on TWT Moto GP bikes cost over a million dollars and they just broke the 200 Mph mark. So unless this guy was riden Rossi's bike or he's got a shit load of money I'm not liken the 205mph.

You know, something like this may be the spark needed to get legislators to start passing laws targeting high performance bikes. We all admit we don't NEED bikes that can go this fast. Now maybe the government will start doing something about it.
