Shoei

Anyone ever had or has a Shoei helmet. What your opinon of it?

I have had a HJC, a AGV and currently an Arai. I have to say that I have been dissapointed in my Arai. Replacement visors seem to be a bitch to get for it and the "mirrored" shaded visor I have is easily scratched and honestly isn't that "mirrored" Not to mention that the visor can flip up sometimes when I check my blindspot on the highway.. not all the way up but enough to be annoying.

So far I think the AGV was the best of the ones I have had. b***** selection in colors for aftermarker visors and man was it comfy.

I'm looking at a Honda cycle next season and it looks like they switch to Shoei for thier "offical" helmets.. used to be AGV at least it was when I got mine. So I was wondering how they are or if I should just go back to AGV.

I hear Arai were better when it came to noise then shoei, thats what my next helmet was/is gonna be arai that is.
I wear a shoei RF-900. This is my second Shoei.... This one BLOWS!.... My last one was the Motion II, 650 retail... and it was so awesome compared to this one. This one just doesn't fit the same. more noise, and doesn't come with a breath gaurd. Both had easy to remove visors. I have ridden about 35k miles with my current shoei, and the visor is still in good shape. I will probably replace the helmet before i replace the visor.

I was actually thinking of trying arai next. Or shelling out the extra cash for the more expensive shoei again.
i had a Shoei as well that I crash tested...it was okay on noise, it fit my head well though. i'm going w/arai next or soumy. probably arai.
Oh yeah.... forgot to mention that.... I crash tested mine too. my current one bounced off the pavement pretty good with my head still in it. That is another reason why i really want to replace it. I had a headache but my melon didn't get split.
Boo Arai.

I spent way too much money for that helmet and visors to reccomend any of you get them. But that's just me. I think I'm going go back to AGV.
I can get an arai for a littel over 200 so thats why I'm looking into getting one of those plus I heard they don't wear as fast, the helmet I have now I have to wear a stocking camp with it cuz my jacket will hit the back and push it over my eyes. I took the padding out of a bicycle helmet and added it to the helmet so at the track I don't have to wear a hot stocking cap. It seemed to work I rode last night with it.
ok

i have both a shoei and an arai. while teh shoei as a few years old and isnt top of the line, i feel that it was great lid. my bigest problem with it was the lack of ventilation. it had two vents and that was it. after a session at the track i was about to faint. the aria however is the TITS imo. the corsair has 8 vents and i have yet to be heated to death with it. it is noisier but with ventilation comes noise and i can handle that trade off. the arai is also MUCH lighter than the shoei, again i cant speak for the higher end shoei. as it is, arai will be the only lid i purchase untill i experience a better helmet.

eric....as for teh visor problem you are having, i had the same problem until spoony pointed out what my malfunction was. there is a little black knub on your visor. that is a visor lock. when you close your lid, slide the lock and the visor wont fly up anymore :)
That's not bad.. I paid over 500 for thier top of the line whenever that was and 100 bucks for a tinted shield. The tinted shield should have been replaced after 2 months and I really shouldn't be still using it. It scratched and peeled very easily... WAY too easily...way to soon. All my problems with that helmet come from the visors though.. they flip up.. they push back. Comfort and ventalation doesn't seem to be bad. I just have been highly dissapointed for the amount I paid.

depends on when a guy got laid last :D
The problem with the crappy shield was a manufacturing flaw that happened a couple years ago. They actually didn't sell them for a number of years because they couldn't find someone to make them right. Now they are actually selling them again though. You must have broken a tab or something on your visor if its flipping up, because if you actually LOCK the visor, you can't flip it up, but it does just snap down and that has always held it in place. I had 35k miles on my first quantum/f before I ate dirt, and I didnt' hesitate to shell out the cash for my current rx7-rr4.

The new shoei x-11 or whatever their top o da line model is pretty pimp too. I tried one on and I was impressed, but it would take a sweeeeet deal to pull me away from my arai.

That would be incorrect.
See your wrong....what did i just say??
Spoon,

What about replacement shields for the Aria? Do you stock any aftermaket ones? One reason why I like AGV is because they had a nice selection of iriduim tinted sheilds but I dont' seem to be having much luck finding ones that fit my Arai.. (I -think- its a Quantum...I know.. i know..but its been awhile since I bought it ) and the quality of the tinted shields from Arai were just bad..shoddy and you could even see through the "mirrored side" if the sun hit it.
