Looking for a new helmet iss maddening to say the least. I've read a variety of articles and reports on the safety and construction of them as well. So far the suomy spec 1r (and the extreme as well) has my eye...the shoei has had high praises from friends but what is everones thoughts on it?

So, have you tried either one on?

Head shape may be different depending on the model in question.

i have a spec 1r and my buddy has an extreme and i know we both love them. They are comfortable and light weight, but its all in what you like. Something else might fit you better or may just feel better on your head. Definately shop around before you choose, try a few of each on then decide.

Helmet specs don't mean anything if the helmet doesn't fit correctly. Go try them on and buy the one that fits you best.

I have a spec 1r and like it but prefer my arai's over the suomy. Like the other's have said I would try on the helmets that you are looking at before purchasing one.

Yep, try em on. I was so set on getting a Suomy & damn near bought one online.
Found one at a dealership, tried it on.......it fit like crap! Glad I found out before
hand.

Recently bought me a Arai Quantum 2, super comphy! & fits perfect.

Shoei Is big in this area so it's VERY difficult to find the actual product (being Suomy or even Arai)...after reading the Blowing the Lid off article in Motorcylist mag I've been leaning to Suomy Spec1R due to the safety results. I have a KBC Force S right now and love the fit, though the road noise is alittle bit much. The owner input on the lids is all I need though....like I said this area is more into comercialism (military area) and brand whoring than actuall stats and specs.
