I'm surprised this doesn't come up more often. It's pretty easy to do, but it will only give you 1-2 additional horsepower on a 600/750, and a little more sound. Are you sure you want to do this? Do you want to disable or replace the SET valve?

I guess the real question is do I really want to type out all the instructions??? :eek:nfloor

I disabled the SET on my '04 to smooth out the throttle response. It helped a little bit. Maybe a little better sound, but that was with a stock can. I put it back to stock for some reason when I got my Akra slip-on and got a dyno tuned PCIII, and that worked even better.

Also, for checking the adjustment of the SET valve cables, check here >>> http://www.sportbikes.net/forums/suzuki-line/336947-bulletin-157-gs-gsx-gsx-r-157-troubleshooting-intermittent-fi-code-display.html

Alright, here goes... this is for disabling the SET valve.

The SET valve's servo motor resets itself every time you turn the ignition on. First it rotates clockwise fully closed, then counter-clockwise fully open, and then clockwise again until it stops, the valve stays about one third open. This is the position used at idling. You need to understand this cycle because you will be disabling the valve in the fully open position! It take a couple seconds to cycle, so you'll have time to do it.

1. Turn the ignition on until the SET valve rotates FULLY OPEN. Turn the ignition off immediately before the valve can move back to the starting position. It is now set fully open. You can remove the muffler and look down the pipe with a flashlight to verify that it's open if you want to.

2. The SET servo motor is in the right side of the tail section attached to the sub-frame. Unplug the 2 connectors that come from the SET valve motor and tape them up.

3. Here's the fun part. You want to make that pesky flashing FI light go away, right? 'Cause it will flash with this mod, or if you install any aftermarket full exhaust. First, find your ECU. It's the BLACK box next to the grey box under the seat with the BLACK wiring connector attached. Unplug the black connector. Now locate the #30 wire. What's the #30 wire? It controls the FI trouble light for the SET valve system. Nothing else.

4. There are two rows of wires in the connector. The top row is #1-17 and #18-34 are on the bottom. So number 30 is on the bottom when connected, 5 wires over from the far right end. When you unplug the connector and turn it over you can see it as pictured below. It should be black wire w/brown stripe. Don't worry too much what color it is. Looking closely you can also see the numbering on the sides of the plug - 30. Disconnect this wire. Just gently pull it out, you don't need to cut it but you can if you want. It should come out very easily, but you may find using a tiny screwdriver helps. Tape the metal part of the wire up and then reconnect your ecu.

Enjoy your free unobstructed exhaust system and possibly some extra hp!

UPDATE FOR K8 600/750 OWNERS - If anyone is looking to do this on their K8 you need to remove the wire in pin #5 and it's the Black wire with a White tracer.

Cut the red wire...

NO WAIT!!! :blowingup

#30 is the black wire with the brown stripe and is 5 wires from the far right end. If you decide to remove it instead of cut it, a tiny flat blade screwdriver will come in handy.

More pics of the SET valve in operation. Open, closed, and semi-open idle position.

I'm going to do this mod again tomorrow. I can't remember why I ever went back to stock.

Is there anyway to know if its open without taking exhaust off..Is it worth doing on the 1k?Also i noticed it tends to make the FI light go off even more when you have a aftermarket exhaust..Do you have to do this with aftermarket exhaust? Also when you buy a TRE mod what is that doing differently? After reading even if it adds a few HP cool..my main concern is if im reading this it also makes the rolling acceleration open more agressively instead of rolling on smoother and not as agressive..is this true?

If you follow the instructions, and follow the cycle of the SET valve when you turn the key on, you can figure out when it is open or closed.

Or, after you unplug/disable the servo motor, you can manually open/close the valve with pliers while the engine is running.

Open = louder, closed = quieter.

If you have an aftermarket full exhaust, your SET valve went away with the original exhaust into the corner of your garage. You will want to unplug the correct wire in the ECU to eliminate the flashing FI light, and get rid of the actuator cable, and the servo motor if you want.

Once you unhook the servo actuator cable, the SET valve will automatically snap OPEN and stay there.

I dunno... Who told you to loosen the nut on the SET valve??? Wasn't me.
Is the SET valve main spring still properly in place, as it is in the pics in post #7?
Sounds like you sprung the spring.

Is the spring still attached and working? If the spring is working the valve will stay in the open position.

If the spring isn't attached, re-attach it.

Next time, follow instructions! :lol

So i think i have got thi down...
If you wait for the valve in thre exhaust to open up,turn the ignition off, unplug the plugs going into sensor and remove or cut brown wire #30..This is like diong the TRE mod except your gear counter still works?
