My chain adjustment bolt on the drive side is completely rounded off...I'm pretty sure it was done by the guys at the local shop when they changed my sprockets, but now I can't adjust it at all...i can't even get any tension on an 8mm wrench or socket without it rolling on me...anyone got any suggestions an getting that bad boy out? need help soon, so I can go get a replacement...thanks

Yup Vise Grips.. Get em on as tight as you can, and then use another pair to further tighen the locked pair up.

OR

Craftsman makes a socket specifically for rounded over bolts, I've never used it but you could try that.

LAST RESORT

Drill it out, tap a dent into the side of the bolt, put a very small drill bit in that dent and drill the depth of the bolt, continue this using b***** bits until the bolt breaks into a few pieces and pull the pieces out. Make sure you get all the metal flake out as well. If you already have the new bolt, you can use it to determine how deep to go, put it next to the drill bit, and wrap a piece of tape around the bit so you know where to stop.

Try the Vice Grips, rounded bolt head remover socket, but before drilling it out try cutting a slot in the head and using an impact driver. Use a Dremel wheel or equivalent to cut a slot in the head (assuming you can get access) as if it were a standard head screw. Get an impact driver (the thing that turns slightly when you hit it with a hammer) with a flat blade and carefully back the bolt out.

Another possible approach is to cut a slot in the side of the head and carefully try to work the bolt loose by tapping a flat punch in the slot with a hammer.

Drilling it out will work as well, but it's difficult to do it right without damaging something (at least for me). :rolleyes

alright...can I back it out completely without taking my rear wheel off...bc as soon as i get tension on the good side, it wont pull any farther because of a shoulder nut inside of it...
