Rider Down in Haines City

My wife just called me from visiting her dad in Haines City... said she was coming around the last corner on Old Polk City Road and there was an officer with crime scene tape up all around. She took a detour down a side road, and saw a green sportbike had hit a car. The bike was destroyed, and the car was also in terrible shape. The crime scene tape obviously says bad news.

Well, she passed by the same spot on the way home... nothing has changed. The crime scene tape is still there, the car is a totaled mess, and there is bike wreckage for 200 feet. The mess is so bad she says she can't even tell which direction the vehicles were going. She says it was definitely a green sportbike, and it looked newer.

Whoever you are, we're praying for you...

HAINES CITY

Man Dies From Crash Injuries

A Haines City motorcyclist died from injuries suffered in a collision with a car, and the car driver has been charged with vehicular homicide, police said.

Bobby Joe King, 34, of 3725 Kandy Lane, Haines City, died at 3:25 p.m. Saturday at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, a Haines City police report said.

Police said King was driving west on Polk City Road about 12:20 p.m. when he was hit head-on by a 1995 Cadillac that crossed the double yellow line. The Cadillac driver, Robert Christin Streets, 21, of Haines City, and his passenger weren't injured, the report said.

Streets was charged Saturday with vehicular homicide.
