So, the past couple days, I noticed that my Ninjer has been very close to overheating, and in the red at some points during short rides. Looking around, I noticed that I had no coolant left. Filled that back up, still overheats. Checked the fan, fuses, all that stuff. Spent about a half hour trying to figure out what was wrong, and my dad takes 30 seconds to look and informs me that my radiator was leaking. Damnit.:bitchslap

So, I plan on trying to put that stuff in that's supposed to fix small leaks first, but in the event that doesn't work and I buy a replacement, what all is involved in replacing the radiator? I can't do much until next weekend as I'm leaving for school early in the morning, and coming back for the bike next weekend.

Replacing a radiator isn't that bad except for access to all the bolts and parts. You might have to remove some plastic parts for access. It would also be a good time to change the coolant and flush the cooling system. Also look at the condition of the hoses. If cracked, replace them as well.

Do you know where the leak is located? It might be able to be fixed by a radiator shop rather than putting that chemical in the coolant. Those chemicals that seal leaks also tend to clog the small cooling channels in the radiator. If the leak is due to a rock hitting the radiator, the hole might be able to be sealed from the outside.

The reason that your bike now overheats is lack of pressure due to the leak even before the coolant level drops too low.

yeah man don't use that radiator repair stuff. just buy a new or used radiator. you might even be able to get a shop to fix it. since bike parts are so much more over priced than car parts, it might be cheaper.

Yeah, I was planning on buying one off a bike part out. Looks like it'll cost me $40 or $50 maybe less. I have no idea where the hole is, but there's coolant leaking out the front which has since emptied all the coolant out of the bike.

Just curious, why would I replace the thermostat or water pump? Would those be the cause of the leak?
