So I have all the stuff I need to repack my muffler, but I am having a really tough time getting the rivets out. I tried to use some drill bits I had sitting around, but those wouldn't make a dent and one even broke. I purchased a drill bit intended to go through metal, but that one didn't do anything either. I was using a 7/64 bit, which just about filled up the i.d. of the rivet and was about the same size as the rivet "shaft". Should I be using a smaller bit maybe? Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Use an awl and hammer to create an initial indentation on the head of the rivet. You will then have a good starting position with your drill.

Grinding works too, but you run the risk of scaring up your cans....
