Ok, newbie time. What's a rearset? Is that the whole peg and lever assembly, or is it a mod to move the peg and lever rearward for a more aggressive stance or (???) something else?

Yes to both of those. I've seen some race rulebooks define a "rearset" as a peg/lever assembly that's located at or behind the pivot for the rear swingarm. Some people also use the term "rearset" to mean just the mounting plate/bracket that a set of footpegs attaches to. Take your pick.

Usually when people talk about wanting rearsets or a rearset kit, they're talking about getting the pegs and controls further back and up.

The one thing that is nice about those rearsets is the shift shaft. It actually uses the stock shaft going through the frame. The others are an eye sore having that bar on the outside of the frame.
