not a draft, any EX servicemen, retired or who have done there time could be called back

Like has been said before...

When you enlist in the military, you sign a contract with the US Government.

This contract says in plain English...FOR INSTANCE(as I dont have my old contract in front of me)...

4 years ACTIVE duty, 4 years inactive duty...for a total obligation of 8 years. If you get out after your 4 years ACTIVE time(or whatever active time is in your contract), you still have the INACTIVE reserve time to account for. You are discharged for all intent and purpose and a civilian. But, the government can and will call you if you still have time on your contract...commonly called the IRR(Inactive ready reserve)

It is not a DRAFT. :)

No, there is a bill in the senate and the house about putting into effect a mandatory service requirement. Basicly making all people who turn 18 have to serve the military or the country in some way or form. Much like many other countries have.

It won't happen though. The bill is sponsored by several democrats, and it's been in committee for over a year now. The reason the bill is democrat sponsored is because they feel if they make it known that a draft could take effect that the people who are opposed to that will vote against Bush and any other representative that is pro-war.

They feel that if the bill is known about, most people won't do their homework and find out it's actually democrat sponsored, and will just assume that it's Bush trying to force their children into the military.

Oh yah, and there is no link. In case you guys didn't notice, when you re-registered, none of the old threads are on the board anymore. It would be on the old board, but from what I can tell it's pretty difficult to get links to those old articles.

Draft? Not gonna happen. This isn't like medieval times, where the people of the castle would fight and die for their King...... We're very very loosely unified....in my opinion. And any president who supported a draft....well...I'm thinking political suicide.

lol...was thinking the same thing Blade

Draft will never happen. They are currently meeting all recruiting goals that have been set for the services. Does the military need to be expanded? Yes it sure does. Is the draft the solution...no. After spending almot 9yrs in I wouldn't want some smuck fighting along side me who was "drafted" in and may have some grudge and only be looking out for himself. The people who volunteer know what can be expected, knowing they may have to give their life for a fellow solider/sailor/airmen, otherwise they wouldn't have signed on the dotted line...or i hope.

I admit it, I've been owned.

Last time I tried to link to something in the old forums, the link just took you to a "article not found" page.
