Alright, how many of you actually thought of getting plastic surgery to fix something about yourself that you don't like. And I'm not talking the joking around stuff either, I'm takling actual consideration, or even better has anyone actually done anything.

I am not a superfacial person at all, never have been. Unfortunately though circumstances from October have made me increasingly self conscious and I am honestly considering plastic surgery. I was in a bad car accident on October 3rd 2003 and I have some facial scarring, nothing outrageous or anything, but enough to make me self-conscious about it. I am thinking of getting scar removal done for it. I'm just wondering what other people think of plastic surgery and what circumstances you would consider getting it done under. The last thing I want is sympathy but your opinions would be nice.

i dont think you should spend your money on that, u should be happy with who you are and what you look like. You made it out of a car wreck with only facial scarring, consider yourself lucky, many arent that lucky, including loved ones to me. Honestly if they are nothing debilitating than why change it? It is understandable that you want to change things though, why dont you wait a little while longer and see how things go. Surgery is a lot of money, and its usually superficial. I personally probably wouldnt go under the knife for some scarring, i'd wear them like battle scars to attract the chicks :lol but seriously, i wouldnt change myself for it.
My whole thing with the scarring is it gets really offensive when people I don't know ask me what happened or I always feel like people stare at it, even though usually I don't think they are. It's a paranoia thing. CJ you saw them once, if you see this, did you notice at all (honestly, I won't care if you say yes)
In my opinion I would just leave it they way its is. Wear it proudly, something bad happened and you survived it and that is your proof. It called war wounds!! When people stare just figure they dont have anything better to do then envy your scares. I think sacrs kind of give a person more charactor..
+1 I think scars, freckles any kind of body mark is just something that shows where you have been or what you had to go through. It's part of you and who you are. Who gives a flip about what people think just be yourself if they don't like you for that then screw um. Beauty is only skin deep.
I can relate to you on this one Ali, when I got in my bad wreck last year I was left with some pretty bad road rash to the bone on my right elbow and leg and 3rd degree burns on my back. If I wear a tank top sometimes people I don't even know come up and touch the burn scars on my back, I mean them asking me what happened erks me enough, but they don't need to f**king touch me. Wait a little while to see what the scars do, if you get out in the sun more they should fade, mine are fading really good for how deep they were b/c I go out in the sun all the time. I say give it time and see what your skin does and if its not the result you want then do what makes you happy.
Take care chickie,
Courtney
Unfortunately this is a whatever makes you feel better situation. But I have to say that I agree with the statement of letting it go awhile longer. Although mine are different, I have the stretchmarks from the babies. People say they are trophies, but I still find them hideous....if I could remove them I would, I have just learned to deal with it...

sicFL-I cannot believe people actually touch you??? Good Lord! I give you credit for not slugging them....
If its going to make you happy then do it just make sure you find the right doctor for you. That means even if someone you know had something down the same doc might not be right for you. Also make sure you think it through.
I have scars, thanks to an abusive ex - my battle scars, as it were. I personally wouldn't have plastic surgery done unless they were really major.

Yeah its hard to deal with the weirdos in this world, I must look like a really nice person if they think they can just come up and touch me. Some people look at scars in different ways some people do think they are trophies, some people look at them as learning experiences and some people are haunted by them everytime they see them i.e. rape victims, abuse victims. Scars from accidents are hard to look at also b/c it reminds you everyday how you could have and should have died, but they also remind you how lucky you are to only walk away with the scars that you now have. I don't know what I would do if I had scars on my face, I only have to look at mine if I really want to I guess so they don't erk me too much even though they are quite large. Like I said though, get out in the sun more and see if the scars fade as your skin becomes darker, its working for me so far :) .

Well said.
Hope you don't mind a mans point of view on this matter. As my wife will tell you I'm peppered with scars from the top of my head to soles of my feet. I don't mind any of them, I have a hard time remembering how I got some them. As I see it with all of the body modifications going on (tattooing, piercing, and so on) if it is what you want go for it.

Butt........ before I would go under the knife, I would find a good Dermatologist and see what other treatments are out there. If you do go the plastic surgery rout find someone who specializes in what you want done.

By the way I remember seeing something saying that the face and hands heal quicker and scars fade more quickly.
I find NOTHING wrong with wanting to have plastic surgery. I'm getting it this winter. Boobs, lipo, my face done, eyes... HELL, I'm getting it all!! YEA!

If this is what you want to do, who cares what any one else thinks. Its your body, your face and if you feel selfoncious about your scares, get them taken care of. I don't think ppl who get or want plastic surgery are vain some are, but alot of ppl arent. I want boobs becasue I never had any, still dont. I'm also shaped like a guy. I have no curves, and I get really bad eye infections about every 2 yrs that streaches the hell outta my right eye that now droops. I cant stand the way it looks so Im getting fixed.

All that matters is, is what YOU think, not what any one else thinks. If you want it done, then get it done. POOO on any one elses opinions.
If it makes you feel better then I don't see the problem in doing it..why not? At least go for 3 consultations and see what the doctors say...information just makes you better informed to make that decision if that's what you choose :)

Also you may want to try Derma (I think it's called) it's a cream that you can get from your pharmacist that minimizes scars whether they are new or are old. It will take longer for it to work on older scars though just so you know.
I say if you have the money, then take advantage of modern science, technoledgy, and medicine. People do it for less reason's.

I was going to get an Addadicktome, but the surgen said I was deffently not a candidate for the proceedure....................

:lol too funny

shortyali, the basic jest of it. Do whatever makes you comfortable. If your selfconcious about it then go ahead but if you don't mind it then don't worry about it. If you do get something done make sure you find a good doctor...
Just be careful whatever you do, we don't want you turning into one of those plastic surgery horror stories.

Yes, I noticed. The First time I saw them I just assumed you were playing with your dog or something and got a scratch, and the second time I noticed it was a scar. I personally don't think that it is something that hinders your appearance. I agree that it is something that you can be proud of saying you walked away from an accident, but I understand that you would be self concious about it. I feel something along that nature is up to you to personally decide if you want to have it fixed. If you are self concious about it, do it. If it doesn't bother you, but someone suggested you do it, fuck em.

I guess its up to you...flash your war wounds and learn to like them, or have them removed. I would like to turn your attention to 3 very beautiful women who have extreme facial scars....one is my role model, Tina Fey from SNL, my girl friend Hansoon, who has 75% of her body extremely scarred from being in a fire while at a refugee camp in Korea before she was adopted....she has now become an icon of beauty in my mind, as she is the best makeup artist I have ever met in my career working for Chanel and doing her own private work, and YOU!

A scar on your face does not hinder your beauty.

If you are that self conscious about it, I say go for it...But do your homework...Find a surgeon with an amazing reputation...Not just a good rep, but a great one...There are plenty of horror stories out there to go along with the successes of plastic surgery...

So again, if you do it, spend the extra money and go for the best...I think it would be worth it...Good luck...
