I am an Alum of Penn State, but came back up to visit my little brother for a few days. Upon arriving on Campus Sunday night we heard news that a Freshman was missing.

Fast forward to Monday and he was still missing. My brother texted me on his way to class to ask about a helicopter that kept circling campus. The helicopter, which circled campus for at least 3-4 hours, belonged to Pennsylvania State Police who helped in the search. Later on into the night, the FBI arrived to also help in the search.

Fast forward again to dinner in the on-campus dining commons and we overheard students talking about how they found Joe's body and he was confirmed dead. So sad...

I understand what you're saying, but whenever a thought like that crosses my mind I think about all the dumbass things I've done over time that could have seen me check out. And had I died doing one of the dumber things there'd be someone out there making a Darwin award crack.

College students will always drink to excess, and occasionally will die as a result. Sucks to be him and those he left behind, but those are the facts. I'm not sure that anything can be done. The freedom to drink when one is first out from the home is impossible to combat. I also think that fraternity life seems to glorify drinking excessively, and will continue. When I was in college, everyone in the fraternity scene lived to emulate Animal House, and I don't see much changing.
