My friend just got a pair of blue Sidi Vertigo boots. I got a close look at them and one thing that I noticed is there was no built in plastic ankle support on the both sides. So basically my question is, how well are these boots supposed to protect you're ankles from getting sprained or even broken. I've seen pictures of riders with bones coming out of they're ankles. They wore normal work boots I think wolverines or catepillars. So what makes these sidi race boots better in ankle protection than normal work boots? Neither has any hard plastic ankle supports.

The Vertigo Corsa is the model that offers the most ankle support. Check that one out if you are concerned with ankle support.
Having said that I prefer my A* Smx Plus boots for ankle protection
