I have read that these are good starters but people seem to grow out of them fairly fast. My question is that I live at an altitude of 5500ft and at the strip cars here run a full second slower than they would at sea level. I plan on getting either a 250 or a Blast and just want to make sure they will be adequet for at least a couple years.

You should perhaps check out the Ninja EX500 as well.....I just recently bought one and its a great bike....reliable, good for a beginner, and can be had for a great price used....or new as I did! It will defintely last you at least two riding seasons, and power is great for beginners

If it's a Ninja 250 your talking about, then you should defintely get that bike. The Buell Blast isn't as good as the 250. The Blast is air cooled, only has 2 valves, and it only has a single cylinder. The Kawasaki is a twin cylinder which is going to be smoother, has 4 valves per cylinder and is going to be better at highway speeds
