Hey guys,
I found a nice 1993 FZR 600 online. It's only got about 8k miles and is all stock, except for a corbin seat. He wants $3k for it, nada's average retail is about $1800.
Can anyone tell me about this bike. I know it'll need some more maintenance since its older, but it seems really clean. Are there any known problems with them or anything?

here's some pics too

Thanks.

Older or not it won't take any more maintenance, especially with 8k miles on it!
That average retail price is not for bikes with 8k miles either, i like the FZR's they still have a huge network of support and mods etc for them. I always wanted one like that, I don't like the way the single headlight ones look though. They are pretty bulletproof as far as bikes go. I rode a few of my friend's FZR's and they were tight fun little bikes. Google for some FZR forums and do some reading before you decide.
3k sounds high for an older bike, but I would pay it since it is so low mileage and in such showroom shape. http://www.fzrarchives.com/

if I remember correctly the early fzr's had some clutch issues, but if it's been well taken care of then it should be alright.
I had a 91 fzr and put about 15k miles on it and it never had any problems.

The bike looks good, especially for it's age.

God damn it's nice. If you like the bike you'll pay $3k, or someone else will, regardless of book value. How was it stored? That might factor in to any maintenance you'll need done to ride it.

I notice the "Genesis" band sticker and the "Yamaha" piano sticker. Was this some kind of promotional bike? What's FZR?

Try the folks at exupbrotherhood1.com for some good info.

That bike looks like it's in great shape going by the pics.
Any particular bike is worth what ever someone is willing to pay. If it's a super nice example then of course it's worth much more than an average bike.

The older the bike the more this is true. NADA says my FZR is worth about $1850.00 now. That's cool, but I sure as hell won't sell it that cheap as it's in better shape than alot of much newer bikes I see on the road that book for a lot more money.

Vintage racing has been a great help for older sportbikes and once certain competitive models qualify for vintage status (as mine will) their worth will start to climb back up. Just look at the prices for vintage dirtbikes on ebay for example. Some pristine examples(especially the European brands) are fetching crazy money.

Edit to add: Check and make sure the charging system is in good working order. This seems to be a common problem with Yamahas of that era and could add big bucks to fix. I found out firsthand and my buddy is going through the same thing with his Vmax.

Had the FZR 1000 for several thosand miles and loved it. Sold it to my friend who decided to pop wheelies all the time and clutch came apart in clutch basket all of the sudden when doin like 30 mph in a straight line in front of police station. Rear tire locked up skidded to a hault. Had an FZR 400 and it never had any issues because it was never abused. If you care for the bike and previous owner cared 4 bike you should have no problems, wouldn't pay 3k though. Gota friend sellin an F4i for 3500 so i mean for the same money you can do better.
