1996 Kawasaki Ninja 250

800 is the asking price--but I don't know if I'm barking up the wrong tree.. I've owned and maintained a Jeep Cherokee for 4 years, but know nothing about fixing bikes..

Does it sound like a complicated fix?

I would love to go for a newer bike--but times are tough and this one is within my current budget =]

Bike looks almost identical to one that I checked out earlier (in another location).

With the caveat that I know sh*t as a newb, I personally would refrain from purchasing a bike that's not been running if I knew next to nothing about bikes and/or bike repair. Especially as I've seen others for not too much more that didn't require work.

G'luck!

Just what I was thinking--though I needed to hear it from someone else =D

I think I will wait for a better one and some more funding too! (cursing my schoolbooks)

Thanks!

The only real problem it has is some old gas/gummed up carburetor issues. I figure this is a 1 hour fix for someone who, unlike me, actually has a clue.
So if he doesn't have a clue, how does one know that this is only a job that requires a bit o' elbow grease? And that this isn't the only "real" problem? I'd still get someone else to actually look at it before dropping the $800, but that could just be my paranoid self. I hate blowing money on something that's allegedly easily fixable, only to find out that x, y, and z are also major problems. :dunno

This is a predicament--on one hand I can get this bike for probably around 600$ and it *may* just need a few simple things; or it could be a total dog..

I think I will save up another thousand and wait until late fall when people will ask a little less for their nicer used ninja's.

Thanks guys!

It's probably more than an hour's fix, but if the add is true about it's condition, not much more.

$800 is too much for a bike that doesn't run, though. Offer him $200, and stand on it.

If you could get it for 2-300.00 then you could afford to take it to somebody and have it gone through. Cleaning the tank and carbs really isn't all that tough if you have some tools and have an idea of what needs to be done. The big question is that all its gonna need? If the engine is toast or if it needed a CDI box or some shit you'll be sunk and could've got a running bike.
