Plastic Welding

I have a fairing piece with a small crack in it. I am planning on painting it, but I want to make sure that the repair is as strong as possible.

Anyone know where to send it? How about local auto body shops? Think they would be able to fix it? I am not sure if they do that to repair car bumpers of if they just toss damaged parts and throw new pieces on since the insurance companies are paying for it most of the time.

I have seen kits for sale, but I don’t know how hard it really is. Anyone ever do it with one of those kits? How much do they cost??

If you plan on painting the entire fairing, then just go to your local auto parts store and buy an fiberglass repair kit. I think Bondo makes a good kit. Here's a good link that details just all the steps:

I've used the process on both ABS plastic as well as race bodywork. I'll be hard to find a autobody shop that'll repair the plastic. Like you said, they usually just toss car parts.

I hope this helps.
