I posted a month ago looking for advice on a first bike for my wife. We went to a bunch of local shops and looked at the Buell Blast, Ninja 250, etc trying to find something she liked. We were leaving one of the dealerships when we saw a girl on a little sportbike that looked like a good starter bike for my wife. Turns out she was selling it to move up to something b***** so we picked it up for a very reasonable price. Its an 89 Honda VTR-250 with only 4000 miles on it. Runs great and IMHO is a percect starter bike. Heres a picture of it....(fairings will be removed tonight and painted a different color!)

I just posted on your 'Blast' thread and am glad you ended up with a Honda (reliable and forgiving). Congrats to your wife on being a proud Honda owner and learning how to ride (regardless of what it is).

Yes as Jap Bike perfectly stated it that Miami Vice white/teal/pink paint job was straight from the factory.....Its shame because the paint it in really great shape but its just so damn ugly

Dayumn - you never taught her how to put her hands on the tank, versus your back? After the first time 'my boys' felt pressure I taught her the correct way...if she wanted to continue being a passenger.

Oh trust me I have tried. My VTR has a narrow tank and she has missed on several occasions which hurts even worse

I've always loved the VTR 250s, it was the first streetbike that I rode. I think it was a 91 VTR 250, but looked exactly like the one in the picture without the cover on the front brake.

But they are extremely hard to come by in Mexico and their bottom depreciation seems about $1,500, too much money for such an old bike.

I wouldn't waste money on repainting it.. odds are she'll have that for a little while, learn on it.. and then want to move up. If she has it for a while.. likes it and doesn't want to get rid of it or get a newer 250.. then repaint it..

until then get her a sportjacket and a white tshirt and some sunglasses.. and some 80's theme music (I keep thinking of vice city) ha ha

Well she rode it for the first time tonight and is hooked. Bike has 4000 miles on it and rides great, I am 6'2 225 and I had a blast riding it home. I will leave the paint alone for now but its really ugly and I don't think having the panels professionally refinished will affect the value of a $1100 bike very much.

I live near Philly and bought it from a younger female who is moving up to a Ninja 500
