I can see both sides of this. On one hand I don't want to pay to keep her in jail and being locked up for 20 years won't bring the dead guy back. On the other hand she shouldn't get behind the wheel again.

she should have to take $1 to the victims family every day for the next 20 years, or untill the victims family gets tired of it

wow, 7300 dollars.
Yeah... something's wrong with those numbers.
$20 is something anyone can manage, and his family would get $146,000
but I wouldn't make them wait $20 years for it.

I think this is bullshit, if this happened in California she'd probably get 25-life

I know some will prob disagree but I think out justice system is completely hosed up and really needs an overhaul. It's set up to punish the innocent and accomidate the guilty.

It's no longer about right and wrong or has anything to do with justice. It's all about who you are an what kinda lawyer you can afford.

A few years ago I had to go to court over a ticket, while sitting there some guy and his lawyer got called up .... it was the guys 6th DUI .... 6TH!!!!!! What did he get you ask??? A slap on the wrist of course .... a pitiful fine and a please stop it. Why don't they just make it really easy for him and just let him run over someone to get it out of the way.

I read this in the local paper (The Gazette) yesterday.

She claimed at the time that the rider was "going so fast that she didn't see him"! The police have not said if the rider was, indeed, speeding.

I was disgusted with the plea bargin, especially as she had been drinking after taking (I believe) anti depresant drugs.

She really got off very lightly. I mean, she just killed someone. In fact, this ability to plea bargin to a lesser offence is, imo, just plain wrong. As they say, "you do the crime you do the time" so until they start putting these idiots away for a very long time, nothing will change.

My sympathies go out to the family of the dead rider.

If she was intoxicated at the time, her testimony should NOT be valid.

Re: price of a life

Supply and demand. India and China are over populated. The world is certainly not under populated. Price of a life is less than it was 50 years ago...

Yea, I just lost a little more faith in our judicial system. I hope she shares a cell with a motorcyclist for 30 days.

So what this is telling me that if I want someone dead I should just get drunk and run them over with my car. Then I can just plead guilty and apologize. That's way better than shooting them and going in for life

Seriously, something needs to be done about this.
