I have a mid 80s Toro 524 snowblower with a Tecumseh HS50 engine. Normally works great, bought it a while back so the old man wouldn't have to shovel. Last week, I had no spark, and pitted breaker points, so I tossed in new points and new capacitor (condenser). Gapped the points when open to .020".
Hooked up the electric starter on the bench, and had all kinds of spark.

Went to put the engine back on the blower body, and now I got nothing. Have good grounds. nothing has changed. Points are set. Same spark plug. I'm testing it by grounding out the plug on the exhaust, which I took a flapper wheel to and shined up all nice for a good connection when testing.

How does a guy test the magneto, see if it's bad? Doesn't make sense that it'd suddenly go bad over the course of 1 hour though. Not really understanding what is going on here.

Dahell boys.. . .Dahell. . .

when we bench tested it all of the safeties n such were disconnected to my knowledge. it was "power to starter and hit the button".

But hell, maybe I missed it.
