Hello,
I'm going to be picking up a K6 750 tomorrow and was wondering what kind of oil to use and when the first oil change should be. I think the dealer says 600 miles but I've also heard as soon as 200 miles. I'm in MN and the temp is usually in the 60s/70s.

Also, what do you guys do for break in? I was thinking of keeping it below 5,000RPM for a couple hundred miles and then under 9,000RPM until a 1,000 miles. I also heard that it's bad to start it while it's still warm. Any truth to that?
Thanks!

Look in the owner's manual for the oil and break in information.

The engineers that designed the bike are smarter than anyone on this board so do what they recommend.

I did mine at 100 miles and will do another at 1000 . No for break in, well i didnt hit the limiter till at least the 27 mile mark on this bike . Freaking first pass with 27 miles was a 12.3 , but i did get a 10.9 that night .

Slight thread hijack -

In general, I don't see anyting wrong in recommending a model-specific site. svrider.com, for example, has a ton more sv650/1000 info than could ever be posted here. As does sv1000.zyns specifically for the sv1000.

Am I missing something?

Back OT, I've changed my oil and filter on a new bike at 300, 600, 1000, 3000 and 6000 miles all with 10/40 dino oil. Next change at 9000 will be with semi-synthetic (Motul 5000). A few metal particles in the oil at 300 and 600, but not too many at the 1000 mile change. YMMV
