I just saw the newest Icon add on here. They are actually featuring ?!?! that speed cretin helmet

(vomits)

Now they are also trying to appeal to the gangsta-squid by having a clothing line called"Represent" - the ad even has a guy trying to look tough while holding a pitbull. ooh, and regionalized pitbull helmets/jackets. Great.

Since when did pitbulls have to do with motorcycling?? OH ya, that way you can park your GSXR, rev your gutted D&D, get off the bike and glare at everyone in the 7-11.

Also, you can look double tough while walking your pit-bull at the same time. The last thing that this world or motorcycling needs is more 20 yr olds trying to act gangsta.

Kudos to Icon for exploiting the "hey look at me im so urban" market.

God help us all.

shit a lot of people advertise chaining a dog to their bike for a lack of a better security measure.

really it shouldn't that big of a deal. The sport is so broad that you can find your niche. There are Urban (we all know what that means...black or want to be) markets; tourer markets, racer (or want to be racer) markets, etc.

big deal man if you don't buy icon what do you have to worry about?

same reason I wouldnt buy a <insert worthless garbage fart can exhaust> for my bike, but still hate what they do to the public image of bikes/riders.

I mean, come on, "dirty south" lettering on the helmet, and a pitbull. This is lame - the sport already has a bad enough rep - now were going super ghetto on our gear too

a t-shirt that reads "i am a lane splitting piece of trash, please run me over and feel no regret" would be great addition.

Soon theyre gonna have crips/bloods helmet line complete with red/blue bandana fabric somehow etched into the design

they're still in business.. so they must be doing something right

generally, it appears that the "stunter/gixxer" crowd outnumbers the "i don't want to look like a poser" crowd. so it's a good marketing strat to appeal to the tastes of the majority.

I was actually coming in to say, you probably won't have to worry very long. Bike sales are down. Money is tight. Nobody is going to be able to afford to stretch and chrome their bikes, so the sale of Icon gear will likely decline.

This isn't an absolute, but I see a lot more alpinestars and joe rocket than I do icon these days.

Not wearing/doing something because you don't want to look like a poser. Is pretty damn poserish if you ask me...

brand new bike sales are down, but pre-owned bikes are getting cheaper and more readily available. which makes it easier for teenagers and young adults to afford SS bikes. since Icon appeals to a younger crowd, their sales could very well increase.
Numbers to back that up? I would say that since people aren't buying new bikes, they would be keeping their old ones. This is obviously opinion and not fact on my behalf.

Dale it seems to me that you have must have no life, since you put all of your energy into caring about what ICON does. Dude its a brand of gear. thats it. no sense in gettin your panties all up in a bunch over it.

Icon is a business, they want to make money. They see that there is a big market for this type of gear, thats why they make it. They realize the wanna be racer market is already heavily saturated with products. They are targeting a different crowd than most of the people on this forum fit into. If you want to put on full leathers to ride down the street to the movie theater, good for you. Fact is thats not a lot of other people are going to ride that way. Some people just want to look cool riding around. That is why manufacturers make different styles of riding gear, because everyones tastes are different. To Icon, a pitbull jacket brings in money, just as a plain black one does. Simple as that...
