Hi,

I am a beginner rider and just got my first bike - Yamaha YZF600R. Every now and then I get wheelspin even at 5000 RPM. I can feel the back wheel sliding left and right. An example is:

Is this normal for 600cc bike? If yes, how am I suppose to accelerate to more than 10k RPM without loosing the back wheel. My tires are Bridgestone Battlax B022.

No, wheel spin like what you describe is not normal.

What tire pressure are you running on both wheels?

What does the rear tire look like? (tread depth or smooth?) And how old is it? There is a date code on the sidewall.

Are you sure the tire is spinning on the ground and not the clutch slipping?

Have you checked the chain tension, sprocket condition, even axle from side to side and axle nut being torqued correctly?

I found the problem. “Bridgestone Battlax”. They came on my Busa from the factory. They’re amazing tires. For about 1500 miles. They started losing any effectiveness after 2500 miles. At 3500 miles it was downright scary.

I’ve been running Pirelli Angel GT’s for 4 years and they’re amazing.
