I heard the other day from a friend of mine that works at a Suzuki dealership that there are too many problems with undertail exhausts. The companies will stop making them and go back to the original set up. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this? Has anyone ever had any problems with it, such as the seat not being as comfortable or it getting too hot.

I just bought a 06 636 but i Havent picked it up yet. I feel worried and almost like I should change my mind on that bike.

Plus those Suzukis look hotttttt

No problems at all with the underseat exhaust, unless you hate lots of compliments :)

The only thing I've heard negative is the way they have to run the piping, causes HP loss since it has to go through more turns, it's less of a straight shot, but I don't care, I love undertail exhausts, sidemounts look cheesy to me.

these little stubby exhaust things seem to be the latest fad. less pipe, fewer bends, less weight, lower center of gravity. personally i think undertail exhausts are the what exhausts should look like.

Or you could attribute the speed to the extra displacement where it belongs.

Why would a guy at a suzuki dealership know about people doing away with undertail exhausts? Suzuki's sport bikes never HAD them in the firstplace. The two companies that have the little low slung stubby's are the ones that never had undertails on their 600's to begin with.

Let's look at it this way.. the kawi zx6RR is killing other 600's at the track last time I looked, and it has an undertail....hmmmm.

I don't like undertails, I like my big can on the side...

If you buy a bike because of the undertail look... good for you.

The only thing it does better is than a conventional/underneath exhaust is less crash damage. That's the only real advantage.
And the look, if you like that.

But then, your tail section will be taking the hit instead.

i love my undertail, the only problem i really had is that my plastic bag holding my insurance and registration melted up, but that was an easy fix dont carry it on the bike just put it in my wallet, and if there is a problem with it being too hot, get a carbon fiber pipe under there. also it makes the bike look more symetrical, that is just a personal preference for me.

Yeah, it doesnt have many advantages. More weight, higher center of gravity, more bends (thus more restrictive), and less heat dissapation.

BUT- they are the coolest looking thing EVER, in my opinion. If you put one on my bike, you lose about 3hp, and i've heard the rear seat can get kinda hot. But it wasn't designed for it. It DOES show off the single sided swingarm, though- which i think is a mortal sin to cover up.

Frickin 1400 bucks, though.... :rolleyes
Someday for sure, probably the first thing to do this summer. It's already got a full race system on it, though... so we'll wait and see...

Not understanding how some of you say it adds more weight and less power .etc when lots of motogp bikes use undertail exhaust. If stubbys were so great they wouldn't need undertail exhaust that simple.

"...Installing this TBR slip-on system will drop 8 lbs from the bike while adding better than 5hp and 2 ft/lbs of torque utilizing the stock fuel injection.." well i found this at Two Brothers for the ZX-6R, the same exhaust i have on my bike.

the undertail exhaust on the street bikes aren't exactly like the gp bikes where it's only a straight out pipe, very light weight. and on the gp bikes, their exhaust system is so elaborate and complex, its meaningless to compare the two.

but no doubt those undertails are damn sexy!

Gee... I wonder why a Suzuki dealership would say that?

I really like the looks of the 636 undertail (as long as it's an aftermarket, but like the Yosh RS-5 in CF best)..... I absolutely HATE dual undertail exhausts(06 10R)... I absolutely LOVE the standard side mount can (my 05 10R)... don't particularly care for the shorty/bellypan exhausts(yammy,gsxr,ninja650)....
