newenough.com and response to a scam

ok long story short, i got screwed a few months back. there is a pop (numerous different types because my fiance got hit with a different one than i did and if you do a search on google you will find tons of them) and it will link to your credit card during a purchase you make online. it will then charge your account a certain amount that isn't really large enough to notice immediately but after 2 months or so if you check your statements it will seem strange. so i am looking through my bank statements and i see something for wli reservation rewards.com or something like that for 9.00 on the same day for 2 months, i call my bank and they give me the number to the company. i then called them and they tell me they got my info from a purchase on newenough.com. they also state that i would have needed to input my email addy twice and i would have gotten 10 off my order, neither of those happened so i got aggravated going around in circles with this scam artist company. i am disputing it with my bank but i sent newenough a nice email. here is what i sent and here is the response.

"I purchased an item from your website a few months ago; I have no complaint with that transaction. My concern is actually with a recurring transaction that had been showing up on my bank statement for a company called WLI ReservationRewards.com. At first I didn’t think anything of it. After three months of this transaction occurring on the same day I realized that this was no purchase I had ever made. I called my bank and was given the number to this company which I then called. The customer service representative then informed me my credit card information had been obtained during a purchase made through your site. Supposedly a screen prompts for a discount off your purchase that day of $10 (I did not get any type of discount nor did I ever sign up for one). I can not speak for other customers and I do not blame your site but it does concern me that a company such as yourself would allow this company to affiliate with your reputable business. I am eager to hear your response or if you are even familiar with this company."

Hi Renee,

A few months back, I had another customer write to me regarding a link to this company on our "order acknowledgement" page just after checkout. He and I discussed it at length--I was claiming it wasn't there and he insisted that it was.

Long story short: the third party vendor who operates our shopping cart software (Americart) implemented this program with ALL their customers with only an email annoucement, which I never got. Had I gotten the announcement I would have opted out immediately. The reason we hadn't noticed it in the office: when we help folks over the phone, we use our own shopping cart to figure shipping, availablity and such, but we always use our "exchange" form and never a real credit card--hence we never saw it.

We opted out of the program immediately after we realized what was actually happening and I apologize for the hassle you've been through. I hope you have been able to recoup your money. If not, let me know the situation and we'll make it up to you.

Sincerely,

Paul ******

in my opinion, that is one of the coolest emails i have gotten. i was concerned about doing business with them again but i have to say that after that email i have no question in my mind that this is they type of company that is genuinly concerned about things such as this. now, my bank is going to handle the 30 that i got charged but i think it was cool that they offered to try and work something out.

Sounds reasonable... time to check some bank statements.... :(
that is cool. stupid con-companies...i just need to think of and found my own scam company...lol
if you use a money order this wont happen but youll have to wait to get the item
I had a friend that worked in the worst place imaginable. It was a call center for a company that would charge people recurring fees of negligable amounts, like you experienced. I'm not sure how they originally got their 'members,' but most of them were elderly and had been charged for over a year. When someone would find out they would call in to dispute the charges; this is where my friend comes in.

Not only was she supposed to take the irrate customer's call, but to recover them and keep them as a customer. They were supposed to be happy to pay these membership fees to receive services that were never offered and were never intended to be offered.

It's really good that New Enough was so cool about it. Everyone I've heard of has had a good experience with them.
I had the best customer service with new enough, bought some boots from them a little bit ago, and they were the wrong size, so I call them to tell them that they are going in the mail that day and to check on the size I needed. They told me to keep the boots until I get the new ones in to compare to make sure I get the right size. That was awesome. I sent them back that day anyway, but just the point of it....

They did the same for me with a pair of gloves, every piece of gear I own (except my lid) came from New Enough. Great folks.
Yep, can't beat newenough. There's nothing like calling to place and order and chatting with the owner.

+1 to that, i think that any place that the owner will actively respond and even answer phones is cool in my book... thats why i ordered my leathers from them :)
I have had nothing but good experiences with newenough. The only thing I'm worried about is that with all of this positive word of mouth advertising they receive, their company will grow, and they might lose that customer service ethic. I'd be happy for them to become more successful, but would hate for them to turn into another faceless company.
The people at new enough are the shining beacon of customer service. They will go out of their way to help you with your purchase and if you aren't satisfied, they will work with you until you are.
You really can't beat their prices, either. Even the stuff on ebay isn't worth it, if newenough has what you want.

I would expect no less from Paul and the crew at NE than what you experienced. If I should ever need any new gear, it will most likely come from them.
^ +1

Great people over there.
Compare that to the other company we recently discussed. It'll make it easy to make your buying choice.
